To overcome these problems, it is proposed to provide machines on subsidy to the farmers<br />

under the following three components:-<br />

a) Fodder Harvestors<br />

b) TMR Wagon<br />

c) Automation of Milking<br />

2.4.16 A token provision of Rs.1.00 lac is provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

2.4.17 The main objective of the scheme is to motivate the identified literate and<br />

semi-literate farmers for raising commercial dairy farming units. It is proposed to undertake<br />

following programmes under this scheme:-<br />

(i) Training/extension services of 400 farmers @ Rs.2000/- each to be paid to<br />

the Trainer agency.<br />

(ii) Grant to 300 SCs/BCs families/farmers @ Rs 1.00 lac each for purchase of<br />

cattle feed, renovation of cattle shed, to arrange the green fodder etc. on a unit<br />

of 5 milch animals or pro-rata thereof.<br />

2.4.18 An outlay of Rs.600.00 lac is provided for the 11 th<br />

Five Year Plan. An outlay<br />

of Rs. <strong>12</strong>5.00 lac is provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

2.5 FISHERIES<br />

Outlay -Rs. 482.76 lac<br />

2.5.1 <strong>Punjab</strong> is now on the threshold of a "Blue Revolution". A trend has already<br />

been set in favour of diversification of agricultural land to fish farming. The farmers are<br />

adopting intensive fish culture in ponds and tanks on modern scientific lines through<br />

composite fish culture of fast growing species. Fishery resources of <strong>Punjab</strong> comprise 868<br />

kilometers of rivers, 1<strong>12</strong>00 kilometers of canals, 5084 hectares of small water reservoirs and<br />

lakes. In addition to this, there are 7130 village ponds covering an area of 4378 hectares<br />

which can be made suitable for fish culture after minor renovation. Another 5228 village<br />

ponds covering an area of 2668 hectares which requires major renovation work can also be<br />

made fit for fish culture.
