11.1.81 The main purpose of the scheme is to maintain and computerization of<br />

departmental reference library. No expenditutre was incurred during 2009-10 and 2010-11<br />

respectively. An outlay of Rs. 5.00 lac is provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

LA-8 Teaching of <strong>Punjab</strong>i Language through correspondence for Indian settled<br />

abroad<br />

Outlay – Rs. 7.00 lac<br />

11.1.82 The main aim of the scheme is to teach <strong>Punjab</strong>i language to non-resident<br />

<strong>Punjab</strong>is settled abroad. No expenditure was incurred during 2009-10 and 2010-11<br />

respectively. An outlay of Rs. 7.00 lac is provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

11.2 TECHNICAL EDUCATION<br />

Outlay- Rs. 5091.00 lac<br />

11.2.1 The state government accords high priority to the technical education sector.<br />

The <strong>Punjab</strong> <strong>State</strong> has 5 Government promoted Engineering Colleges, 89 Self financed<br />

Engineering Colleges, 33 B.Pharmacy and 139 Management Institutions, 18<br />

Government/aided Polytechnic Colleges and 119 Self financed Polytechnic Colleges in the<br />

<strong>State</strong>. To make the technical education system responsive to the needs and requirements of<br />

industry, action has been initiated on many fronts. Conscious efforts have been made to<br />

make the technical education system self supporting and self financing through fee revision<br />

and other means of internal resource generation. For continuous up-gradation and expansion<br />

of human resources development facilities, participation of private sector is also being<br />

encouraged. An outlay of Rs. 6688.00 lac was provided in the 10 th Five Year Plan (2002-07)<br />

for this sector against which an expenditure of Rs. 1400.82 lac was incurred. An outlay of<br />

Rs. <strong>12</strong>025.00 lac is approved for the sector in the 11 th Five Year Plan. An expenditure of Rs.<br />

851.76 lac, Rs. 2659.54 lac and Rs. 2977.44 lac was incurred during 2008-09, 2009-10 and<br />

2010-11 respectively. An outlay of Rs. 5091.00 lac is provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.
