HORT-1 Diversification of Agriculture through Development of Horticulture<br />

2.1.45 During the 11 th five year Plan, the scheme has been reframed by merging the<br />

three schemes i.e. development of horticulture including sericulture, diversification of<br />

agriculture through horticulture and improvement of quality of perlette variety of grapes.<br />

2.1.46 The main objectives of the scheme are-<br />

(1) To bring an additional area of 23,800 hectares and 4350 hectares under fruits<br />

during 11 th Five Year Plan and <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong> respectively.<br />

(2) To strengthen the nursery production work for raising 65.62 lac plants for new<br />

plantation during 11 th Five Year Plan and 10.88 lac nursery plants during<br />

<strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

(3) To popularize spawn production and Mushroom cultivation in the <strong>State</strong>.<br />

(4) To strengthen the Govt. Gardens, Nurseries, Govt. Potato Seed Farms, Land<br />

Scape Units and Mushroom Laboratories..<br />

2.1.47 An amount of Rs. 2000.00 lac is provided for the 11 th Plan. An expenditure of<br />

Rs. 382.67 lac and Rs. 375.23 lac was incurred during 2007-08 and 2008-09 respectively.<br />

An expenditure of Rs. 308.34 lac had been incurred during 2009-10. Against an expenditure<br />

of Rs. 181.82 lac incurred during 2010-11, an outlay of Rs. 500.00 lac is provided for the<br />

Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

HORT-2 Demonstration-cum-Fruit Preservation Laboratories and Community<br />

Canning Centres<br />

Outlay – Rs. 40.00 lac<br />

2.1.48 The objective of the scheme is to train and educate the fruit growers/public in<br />

latest techniques for the preservation and preparation of various products like squashes, jams,<br />

jellies and other canned products from fruits and vegetables. Six Fruit Preservation<br />

laboratories one each at Hoshiarpur, Abohar, Patiala, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar and
