9.1.22 PSCST has undertaken major initiatives for promotion and development of<br />

biotechnology in the state. India’s first agri-food biotech cluster comprising of National<br />

Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Bio Processing Unit (BPU) and Biotechnology<br />

Park is being set up in the state with the support of Department of Biotechnology,<br />

Government of India. In order to keep up the pace of development, PSCST proposes to<br />

showcase the strengths of <strong>Punjab</strong> as a destination for investments in the area of<br />

biotechnology by participation in national events and organizing workshops relevant to the<br />

state.<br />

9.1.23 Under this scheme, no expenditure was incurred during 2008-09 and 2009-<br />

SR-13 Setting up of Centre for Bio-technology based programmes for women<br />

and rural development.<br />

9.1.24 <strong>Punjab</strong> <strong>State</strong> Council for Science & Technology has been implementing<br />

various meaningful programmes for women empowerment through biotechnological<br />

interventions. In order to continue to take up such programmes in more integrated manner,<br />

the setting up of a centre has been proposed which would be working for standardization and<br />

transfer of biotechnology packages relevant to socio-economic developmental needs of rural<br />

women of the state.<br />

9.1.25 Under this scheme no expenditure was incurred during 2008-09 and 2009-10.<br />

No outlay is provided in Annual Plan 2010-11 and <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

SR-14 Solid Waste Management through Vermiculture Bio-technology<br />

9.1.26 The vermiculture biotechnology is an effective waste management technology<br />

which has been validated by the council for treatment of various categories of organic solid<br />

waste. The objective of this project is to popularize this technology by organizing training<br />

programmes and setting up demonstration units.
