the year <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

<strong>12</strong>0. <strong>State</strong> government has launched NABARD approved EDUSAT programme on<br />

02/02/2010 with a total cost of Rs. 95.00 crore to provide infrastructure for establishment of<br />

virtual/ extended class-rooms in 1501 government schools. Against NABARD share of Rs.<br />

65.00 crore, the <strong>State</strong> would contribute Rs. 30.00 crore.<br />

<strong>12</strong>1. Under the centrally sponsored programme “Saakshar Bharat Mission-20<strong>12</strong>”,<br />

2735 village panchayats and 38 blocks of 7 districts namely Mansa, Sri Muktsar Sahib,<br />

Ferozepur, Sangrur, Bathinda, Faridkot and Barnala will be covered. An outlay of Rs. 20.00<br />

crore is provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong> which includes state share of Rs. 5.00 crore.<br />

<strong>12</strong>2. Under the programme Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research<br />

(INSPIRE) launched by the department of Science and Technology of GoI, the state<br />

government is taking benefit for more than 5000 students per year. INSPIRE scheme has<br />

three components. They are (a) Scheme for Early Attraction of Talents for Science (SEATS),<br />

(b) Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) and (c) Assured Opportunity for Research<br />

Careers (AORC). A scholarship of Rs. 5000/- per year per student is provided. Besides,<br />

science exhibitions are also organized in the state.<br />

<strong>12</strong>3. 21 new model schools have been set up in educationally backward blocks<br />

spread over the 7 districts under centrally sponsored scheme, “Setting up of Model Schools at<br />

Block level in educationally backward blocks (75:25)”. The cost of construction per school is<br />

Rs. 3.00 crore and recurring expenditure of Rs. 0.75 crore per school per annum.<br />

Government of India should approve atleast one model school in every block. Besides, 21<br />

hostels for girls in these blocks are nearing completion under the centrally sponsored scheme<br />

“Construction and running of girls hostels for students of secondary and higher secondary<br />

schools (90:10)”. The cost of construction per hostel is Rs. 0.52 crore and recurring<br />

expenditure will be Rs. 14.27 lac per annum.<br />

<strong>12</strong>4. The state government has taken a major initiative to set up <strong>12</strong>6 Adarsh<br />

Schools at least one in each assembly constituency in collaboration with the private sector.<br />

These will be located in an area of 10-15 acres. The capital cost would be Rs 7.50 crore per<br />

school which shall be met on 50:50 basis between the state government and private partner.<br />
