SR-2 Popularization of Science (50:50) (Scheme SR-8 merged).<br />

Outlay - Rs. 40.00 lac<br />

9.1.5 The main objective of the scheme is to take science to the masses and<br />

especially involve school & college students and teachers in scientific programmes by<br />

organizing workshops, exhibitions, seminars and training programmes for students in<br />

collaboration with educational institutions and education department.<br />

9.1.6 Under this scheme, an outlay of Rs. 25.00 lac is provided as state share for<br />

11th five year plan. An expenditure of Rs. 1.05 lac and Rs. 4.65 lac as state share was<br />

incurred during 2007-08 and 2008-09 respectively. No expenditure on state’s side was<br />

incurred during 2009-10. From 2010-11, the state scheme SR-8 “Popularization of science”<br />

has been merged in this scheme. Against an approved outlay of Rs. 30.00 lac provided in<br />

2010-11, an outlay of Rs. 40.00 lac as state share (50%) is provided in the Annual Plan<br />

<strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

SR- 1 Pushpa Gujral Science City at Kapurthala (70:30)<br />

Outlay – Nil<br />

9.1.7 Science City has been set up at Kapurthala. The total cost of the project was<br />

Rs. 100.00 crore (GOI share Rs. 70.00 crore + GOP share Rs. 30.00 crore). The state has<br />

provided developed land and infrastructure for this project. The entire central share and state<br />

share has been released. No outlay has been provided from 2010-11 onwards.<br />

SR-3 Grant-in-aid to Bio-technology Incubator (scheme SR-7 merged).<br />

Outlay – Rs. 300.00 lac<br />

9.1.8 The aim of the scheme is to develop Biotechnology Incubator comprising<br />

testing and certification facilities for agri- produce and products including processed food<br />

and to cater to farmers and biotech industry in <strong>Punjab</strong>. Land measuring 1 acre has been<br />

allocated for Bio-Technology Incubator in Knowledge City, Sector-81, SAS Nagar. The total<br />

cost of the bio-technology incubator is Rs. 1097.00 lac. Government of India had already
