2.5.13 An outlay of Rs. 135.00 lac is provided for 11 th Five Year Plan. An<br />

expenditure of Rs. 13.00 lac and Rs. 0.18 lac had been incurred in 2007-08 and 2009-10<br />

respectively. Against an expenditure of Rs. 22.00 lac incurred during 2010-11, an outlay of<br />

Rs. 70.00 lac is provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

2.5.14 The main objective is to develop professionally qualified human resource in<br />

fisheries through education and training in fisheries, to conduct region specific research in<br />

fisheries, to provide advisory and consultancy services.<br />

2.5.15 Fisheries has been recognized as a potential sector for generation of the<br />

income employment and socio-economic improvement of the farming lot. However,<br />

emphasis on development of appropriate human resources and need based research on<br />

fisheries received no attention due to lack of appropriate scientific institute in the state. To<br />

exploit hidden potential of enhancing farmer’s income through fisheries, it is imperative to<br />

establish an institute of fisheries at GADVASU Campus, Ludhiana. The institute will start<br />

technical programmes leading to the degree/diplomas of (i) Bachelor of Fisheries Science<br />

(B.F.Sc.) (ii) Master of Fisheries Science (M.F.Sc.) (iii) Doctorate Degree (Ph.d) and a Post<br />

Graduate Diploma (PG.D) in the field of Fisheries. The research conducted on different<br />

concepts of fisheries will help in removing the various implements in profitable fish farming.<br />

2.5.16 Against an expenditure of Rs. 300.00 lac incurred during 2010-11, same<br />

outlay is provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />
