11.6.34 <strong>Punjab</strong> Water Supply & Sanitation Department is primarily entrusted with the<br />

responsibility of providing safe drinking water to rural population. As on 1/04/2010 the status<br />

of coverage of schemes is given below: -<br />

The state government proposes to cover all remaining 18<strong>12</strong> partially covered and 731 not<br />

covered villages under World Bank Project and assistance from NABARD and National Rural<br />

Drinking Water Programme of Government of India. 797 NC & 826 PC villages are proposed<br />

to be covered during <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

11.6.35 Government of India is providing funds by diverting 20% of the funds made<br />

available under ARWSP. Sub-Mission projects are executed on sharing basis between<br />

Government of India and state government. The main aim of this programme is to cover<br />

brackish/fluoride affected and water logged schemes of villages in the state. An expenditure<br />

of Rs. 155.46 lac was incurred as state share during 10 th Five Year plan. During 10 th plan
