2.1.77 Organic Farming is a production system, which avoid the use of synthetically<br />

manufactured fertilizers, pesticides and growth regulation. Organic farming system relies on<br />

crop rotation, crop residues, animal manures, legumes, green manures off-farm wastes and<br />

Vermin-compost. There is a need to improve the quality alongwith further improvement in<br />

quantity. Quality produce can only be possible with the adoption of organic farming and<br />

there is a need to gradually replace chemical farming system with the organic farming. Apart<br />

from improving food quality, soil health can also be maintained and improved with organic<br />

farming system. To popularize the organic farming emphasis would be laid on field<br />

demonstrations, farmer training camps and model organic farm.<br />

2.1.78 An expenditure of Rs. 15.09 lac and Rs.13.66 lac was incurred during 2007-<br />

08 and 2009-10 respectively. Against an expenditure of Rs. 0.75 lac incurred during 2010-<br />

11, an outlay of Rs. 60.00 lac is provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

CS (AGR)-20 Upgradation of Soil Health Labs under the National Project on<br />

Management of Soil Health and Fertility (Direct release)<br />

Outlay - NIL<br />

2.1.79 The main objective of the scheme is to facilitate and promote Integrated<br />

Nutrient Management (INM) by strengthening of Soil Testing Labs, Mobile Soil Testing<br />

Labs, establishing new Fertilizer Quality Control Labs and training to the staff and farmers.<br />

For implementing the project, the funds will be routed through Sustainable Agriculture<br />

Development Agency (SADA).<br />

2.1.80 Govt. of India releases funds directly to SADA. An expenditure of Rs. 25.00<br />

lac and Rs. 62.73 lac had been incurred during 2009-10 and 2010-11 respectively. No outlay<br />

is provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.
