cogeneration power projects of 336 MW have been commissioned and 25 more projects of<br />

291 MW capacity are under implementation. 6 Solar Wind Hybrid systems of 30 MW<br />

capacity have also been commissioned. 6 Solar Power Projects of 14 MW capacity have<br />

already been allotted and a plan to generate additional 100 MW of solar power is being<br />

drawn up. <strong>Punjab</strong> <strong>State</strong> Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved tariff of Rs. 7 per<br />

KW with 5 % escalation up to 20<strong>12</strong> to encourage the developers to set up solar base power<br />

projects.<br />

EMPLOYMENT AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT<br />

172. Growth in employment, especially in the organized sector, has not been<br />

commensurate with the growth in the economy. To enhance the employability of the youth in<br />

the state, the state government created a separate Department of Employment Generation and<br />

Training in March, 2007.<br />

173. Manpower survey of unemployment has been completed for 20 districts. Mass<br />

counselling programmes providing educational and vocational guidance to youth were<br />

organized in 1048 institutions and 1.84 lakh candidates benefited from this programme. The<br />

department is also the nodal office for providing training to the youth in the field of<br />

construction, automotives, and retail and services sectors. Construction skill development<br />

centre set up in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in village Abul Khurana in<br />

Lambi block of Muktsar district, is operational since 2009. Another centre for providing<br />

training in trades of driving & automotive skills has been set up in collaboration with Tata<br />

Motors in village Mahuana of Lambi Block. Memorandum of Understanding has been signed<br />

with Bharti Wall-Mart Ltd. for courses in retailing, logistics and supply chain management in<br />

Government Polytechnic for girls, Amritsar in 2008. Under this programme 1530 candidates<br />

have been trained and 830 placed in private sector. METRO Cash & Carry, the international<br />

leader in business-to-business wholesale would soon open a training centre at Ludhiana to<br />

impart training to youth in wholesale business.<br />

174. 16 C-PYTE centres have been set up for training of youth for jobs in army and<br />

para-military forces. 4 more centres are proposed for the current year. Till date the centres<br />

had imparted training to 40,000 youth, out of which 23000 have been suitably employed.<br />

4440 candidates have received training in the trade of security guard at police training centre<br />

in Jehan Khelan in Hoshiarpur District and Ladda Kothi in Sangrur District and almost all of<br />

them have been placed in employment.<br />
