• Sports sector- hockey stadium and multipurpose stadium at Amritsar and Gurdaspur.<br />

• Tourism and cultural affairs- Infrastructure development of Khalsa Heritage Complex<br />

at Anandpur Sahib.<br />

• Water supply and sewerage- Water supply and sewerage schemes in Tarn Taran,<br />

Gidderbaha, Patti, Sultanpur Lodhi and Amritsar. Water supply schemes in villages of<br />

Khadoor Sahib, Goindwal Sahib, Chola Sahib, Kiratpur Sahib, Dera Baba Nanak and<br />

Chamakaur Sahib. Installation of reverse osmosis plants in 552 villages of 8 districts.<br />

• Urban development- various development works in Tarn Taran, Jalalabad, Jalandhar<br />

and Amritsar.<br />

TRANSPORT<br />

77. Roads and communication network hold the key to the overall growth of the<br />

economy. It is a basic infrastructure for promotion of agriculture, industry, trade and<br />

business. The <strong>Punjab</strong> has an extensive 60881 km network of roads comprising of 1749 km of<br />

national highways, 1479 km of state highways, 21<strong>12</strong> kms major district roads, 4482 km of<br />

other district roads and 51059 km of village link roads. The state government plans to<br />

upgrade all the important link roads with more than 10 metre width into plan roads. In the<br />

Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>, the approved outlay is Rs. 607 crore against an expenditure of Rs.<br />

5<strong>12</strong>.55 crore last year. Besides, substantive funds would be invested from <strong>Punjab</strong><br />

Infrastructure Development <strong>Board</strong> and government of India.<br />

78. The work of construction on high level bridge at Sarai Ka Pattan and one<br />

submersible bridge on Bhangi Choe at Hoshiarpur is complete and other High Level Bridge<br />

on Makhu over river Sutlej is under progress. For good connectivity to IIT Rupnagar, up<br />

gradation and bypass of road from headwork is under progress at a project cost of Rs. 8.44<br />

crore. 30% of work is completed.<br />

79. The World Bank has approved <strong>Punjab</strong> <strong>State</strong> Road Sector Project at the total<br />

cost of Rs. 1500 crore. This is the largest road sector project undertaken in the state in which<br />

around 900 kms of roads shall be improved. The share of the World Bank is Rs. 1<strong>12</strong>5 crore<br />

and that of <strong>Punjab</strong> state is Rs. 375 crore. The Project agreement and loan agreement was<br />

signed on 26/2/07. The duration of the project is 5 years. The effective date of the project is<br />
