11.<strong>12</strong>.34 To check the declining sex ratio and to increase the status of the girl child in<br />

the society so as to ensure that she is given equal opportunity to develop and grow into a<br />

potential human being, Government of India introduced 100% centrally sponsored scheme<br />

in 11 blocks of 8 states in the country on pilot basis. In <strong>Punjab</strong>, Sirhind block of Fatehgarh<br />

Sahib is included under these selected blocks. This scheme is open to all girl children<br />

irrespective of income level and size of the family. Under this scheme, family of the girl<br />

child (preferably mother) born on or after 19/11/2008 in Sirhind block shall be given cash<br />

transfer as per detail given below:-<br />

• Birth registration of the girl child Rs. 5000/-<br />

• Full immunization Rs. <strong>12</strong>50/-<br />

• Enrollment in primary school Rs. 1000/-<br />

• On passing of class-I, II,III,IV & V Rs. 500/-each<br />

• Enrollment in secondary school Rs. 1500/-<br />

• On passing of class-VI, VII & VIII Rs. 750/-each<br />

11.<strong>12</strong>.35 In addition, the girl child born on or after the cut-off date is entitled to an<br />

insurance cover/maturity benefit to the tune of Rs. 1.00 lac through LIC provided she does<br />

not get married before attaining the age of 18 years. An expenditure of Rs. 72.05 lac was<br />

incurred during 2009-10. An expenditure of Rs. 101.26 lac was incurred during 2010-11. An<br />

outlay of Rs. 100.00 lac is provided in the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

New Scheme<br />

CS(SW)-7: Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY)- Conditional<br />

Maternity Benefit Scheme (CMB).<br />

Outlay- Rs. 1797.01 lac<br />

11.<strong>12</strong>.36 A new scheme for pregnant and lactating women has been approved by the<br />

Government of India initially on pilot basis in 52 selected districts across the country. In<br />

<strong>Punjab</strong>, scheme will be implemented in Kapurthala and Amritsar districts. The scheme will<br />

be implemented using the platform of ICDS.<br />

11.<strong>12</strong>.37 The objective of the scheme is to improve the health and nutrition status of<br />

pregnant, lactating women and infants by:<br />

(i) Promoting appropriate practices, care and service utilization during<br />

pregnancy, safe delivery and lactation
