89. Institute of Hotel Management, Bathinda has started hospitality courses at<br />

diploma level in the session 2009-10. Rs. 2.00 crore has been expended for construction of<br />

girls hostel in this institution during 2010-11. The civil work of food craft institute,<br />

Hoshiarpur has been completed and diploma courses would be started in the coming<br />

academic session. Another proposal for setting up of food craft institute in district Kapurthala<br />

is under consideration. Broad basing hospitality courses are being introduced in the various<br />

schools, ITI’s and colleges of the state. Government of India released Rs. 30 crore for this<br />

purpose during 2010-11. The historic fort in Gobindgarh at Amritsar, built by Maharaja<br />

Ranjit Singh has been transferred by the Army to the Department of Tourism. The renovation<br />

work is proposed to be started during <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

RURAL WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION<br />

90. <strong>Punjab</strong> Water Supply & Sanitation Department is primarily entrusted with the<br />

responsibility of providing safe drinking water to rural population. With an outlay of Rs.329<br />

crore, the state is adhering to its programme for providing drinking water supply to all rural<br />

habitations by 20<strong>12</strong>. The coverage status of rural habitation as on 31/3/<strong>2011</strong> are given<br />

91. The state government proposes to cover 826 partially covered and 731 not<br />

covered villages during the 11th Plan period under World Bank Project and assistance from<br />

NABARD and Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programmes of Government of India.<br />

92. An agreement was signed by the state government with World Bank on<br />

26/2/2007 for implementing the <strong>Punjab</strong> Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project costing<br />

Rs.<strong>12</strong>80.30 crore. The project is likely to be completed by 20<strong>12</strong>-13. The project is financed<br />

by the World Bank to the extent of Rs.751 crore (59%), by Government of <strong>Punjab</strong> for Rs.245<br />

crore (19%), by Government of India for Rs.207 crore (16%) and through community<br />

contribution of Rs.77 crore (6%). The project has the following components:
