TE-1 Creation of infrastructural facilities for running Diploma courses for<br />

11.2.2 <strong>Punjab</strong> is mainly an agriculture based economy, however no attention has<br />

been paid to the food processing industry inspite of availability of agricultural raw materials.<br />

Due to this reason the industry in <strong>Punjab</strong> could not compete in the international market. The<br />

state government intends to introduce a three years diploma course in Food Technology in<br />

ten government polytechnics in the first phase as per guidelines of the Ministry of Food<br />

Processing for producing technically trained manpower. The ten government polytechnics in<br />

which the government wants to introduce three year’s diploma course are- Government<br />

Polytechnic for Women- Ropar, Patiala, Ludhiana and Jalandhar; J.R. Government<br />

Polytechnic, Hoshiarpur; Government Polytechnic- Amritsar, Bathinda, Khunimajra, Batala<br />

and Bhikhiwind. It will generate employment opportunities for transporters, cold storage and<br />

processing industry. The scheme will be executed on 75:25 basis between Government of<br />

India and Government of <strong>Punjab</strong>. The approval of GoI is still awaited.<br />

11.2.3 An outlay of Rs. 625.00 lac as state share and Rs. 1875.00 lac as Government<br />

of India share is provided for the 11 th Five Year Plan. No expenditure was incurred sofar as<br />

the scheme is yet to be approved by the GoI. An outlay of Rs. 4.00 lac (Rs. 3.00 lac GoI<br />

share + Rs. 1.00 lac as state share) is provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

TE-7 Implementation of Technical Education Quality Improvement<br />

Programme (TEQIP-II) (75:25)<br />

Outlay – Rs. 339.00 lac<br />

11.2.4 Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-II) was<br />

envisaged in 2003. The programme is to be implemented in three phases for transformation<br />

of the technical education system. The first phase was commenced in 2003 and ended in<br />

2009. Now the second phase has commenced with the duration from 2010 to 2014. The <strong>State</strong><br />

of <strong>Punjab</strong> is being covered in 2 nd phase. The programme is being implemented by the<br />

Ministry of Human Resource and Development.
