Outlay – Rs. 200.00 lac<br />

11.5.92 The <strong>State</strong> Level Tabacco Control Cell has been established in the Directorate<br />

of Health & Family Welfare, <strong>Punjab</strong>. Tobacco Control Cells have been established at the<br />

district level to monitor and enforce the legislative provisions of “The Cigarettes & Other<br />

Tobacco Products Act, 2003. Main provisions of the Act are as under:-<br />

(i) Prohibition of smoking in public places;<br />

(ii) Prohibition of advertisement sponsorship and promotion of tobacco products;<br />

(iii) Prohibition of sale of tobacco products near educational institutions;<br />

(iv) Regulation of health warning in tobacco products packs;<br />

(v) Regulation of tar and nicotine contents of tobacco products.<br />

11.5.93 Action plan for achieving the target is as follows:-<br />

(i) To implement the “Tobacco Control Act & Rules 2003” in letter and spirit.<br />

(ii) To arrange exhibitions, seminars, banners at District level, Sub-division level,<br />

Block level. Especially truck/car/bus union and school/colleges are regularly<br />

made aware about ill-effects & diseases caused by uses of tobacco & other<br />

tobacco products and also warned of punishment in case of violation of<br />

provisions of “Tobacco Control Act, 2007”.<br />

(iii) District Tobacco Control Committees would send the monthly reports and<br />

proceedings of the meeting regarding the anti-tobacco activities at the District<br />

to the <strong>State</strong> Headquarters.<br />

(iv) Multi-sectoral involvement for the implementation of the Act with the help of<br />

NGOs, Police Department, Education Department and the nearest Local<br />

Executive officer/administration.<br />

11.5.94 The scheme aims at making people aware regularly about ill-effects &<br />

diseases caused by use of tobacco & other tobacco products and also be warned of<br />

punishment in case of violation of provisions of “Tobacco Control Act”. An outlay of Rs.<br />

200.00 lac had been provided for the Annual Plan 2010-11. An outlay of Rs. 200.00 lac is<br />

provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.
