Outlay – Rs. 1860.42 lac<br />

8.1.1 Road transport is a vital infrastructure for the development of economy of the<br />

state. Goods transport is mainly operated by the private sector and passenger transport is<br />

shared between government sector and private sector. <strong>Punjab</strong> Roadways is a purely<br />

government undertaking that provides travelling facilities to the public. An outlay of Rs.<br />

5870.00 lac is provided for the 11 th Five Year Plan (2007-<strong>12</strong>). An expenditure of Rs. 8.15 lac<br />

and Rs. 213.57 lac has been incurred during 2008-09 and 2009-10 respectively. Against the<br />

expenditure of Rs. 250.14 lac during the year 2010-11, an outlay of Rs. 1860.42 lac is<br />

provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>. The scheme-wise details are as under: -<br />

8.1.2 The transport department has got infrastructure in the shape of workshops &<br />

administrative blocks at 18 places in <strong>Punjab</strong> roadways depots with area for movement,<br />

maintenance of operation of about 100 buses in each depot. PUNBUS buses are also being<br />

maintained/accommodated by <strong>Punjab</strong> Roadways. The building of the Employees Training<br />

School at Chandigarh is incomplete and requires immediate completion. Renovation/ repair/<br />

special repair of 19 depot buildings is to be undertaken.<br />

8.1.3 An outlay of Rs. 500.00 lac is provided for the 11 th Five Year Plan. Against<br />

an expenditure of Rs.56.88 lakhs during the year 2010-11, an outlay of Rs. 200.00 lakhs is<br />

provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong><br />

RT-2 Introduction of Computerization in Transport Department<br />

Outlay - Rs. 372.42 lac<br />

8.1.4 For the computerization of department of transport at a total cost of Rs.<br />

211.18 lac (non commercial wing- Rs. 157.00 lac + commercial wing Rs. 54.18 lac) an<br />

amount of Rs. 200.00 lac ACA was released by Government of India during 2005-06. This<br />

amount could not be released during 2005-06 & 2006-07. The amount of Rs. 200.00 lac<br />

provided in the Annual Plan 2007-08 was diverted to EDUSAT (Scheme of Education<br />

Department) during 2007-08. An outlay of Rs. 372.42 lac is provided in the Annual Plan<br />

<strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>. for computerization of its depots and head offices (Rs. 350 lacs) and installing<br />

electronic ticketing machines in 300 buses (Rs. 22.42 lac).
