8.1 ROAD TRANSPORT 8. TRANSPORT 209 Outlay – Rs. 1860.42 lac 8.1.1 Road transport is a vital infrastructure for the development of economy of the state. Goods transport is mainly operated by the private sector and passenger transport is shared between government sector and private sector. Punjab Roadways is a purely government undertaking that provides travelling facilities to the public. An outlay of Rs. 5870.00 lac is provided for the 11 th Five Year Plan (2007-12). An expenditure of Rs. 8.15 lac and Rs. 213.57 lac has been incurred during 2008-09 and 2009-10 respectively. Against the expenditure of Rs. 250.14 lac during the year 2010-11, an outlay of Rs. 1860.42 lac is provided for the Annual Plan 2011-12. The scheme-wise details are as under: - On Going Schemes State Funded Schemes RT-1 Land & Building (Upkeep / Upgradation of Infrastructure created and creation of new infrastructure) Outlay – Rs. 200.00 lac 8.1.2 The transport department has got infrastructure in the shape of workshops & administrative blocks at 18 places in Punjab roadways depots with area for movement, maintenance of operation of about 100 buses in each depot. PUNBUS buses are also being maintained/accommodated by Punjab Roadways. The building of the Employees Training School at Chandigarh is incomplete and requires immediate completion. Renovation/ repair/ special repair of 19 depot buildings is to be undertaken. 8.1.3 An outlay of Rs. 500.00 lac is provided for the 11 th Five Year Plan. Against an expenditure of Rs.56.88 lakhs during the year 2010-11, an outlay of Rs. 200.00 lakhs is provided for the Annual Plan 2011-12 RT-2 Introduction of Computerization in Transport Department Outlay - Rs. 372.42 lac 8.1.4 For the computerization of department of transport at a total cost of Rs. 211.18 lac (non commercial wing- Rs. 157.00 lac + commercial wing Rs. 54.18 lac) an amount of Rs. 200.00 lac ACA was released by Government of India during 2005-06. This amount could not be released during 2005-06 & 2006-07. The amount of Rs. 200.00 lac provided in the Annual Plan 2007-08 was diverted to EDUSAT (Scheme of Education Department) during 2007-08. An outlay of Rs. 372.42 lac is provided in the Annual Plan 2011-12. for computerization of its depots and head offices (Rs. 350 lacs) and installing electronic ticketing machines in 300 buses (Rs. 22.42 lac).
