14 Community Canning Centres are functioning in the <strong>State</strong>. Besides this, 6 more<br />

Community Canning Centres would be set up in the 11 th Plan period. In these units 88,000<br />

Kg fruits will be processed and 10,000 persons will be imparted training during <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

2.1.49 An amount of Rs. <strong>12</strong>5.00 lac is provided for the 11 th Plan. An expenditure of<br />

Rs. 24.79 lac, Rs. 23.73 lac and Rs. 22.90 lac was incurred during 2007-08, 2008-09 and<br />

2009-10 respectively. Against an expenditure of Rs. 33.59 lac incurred during 2010-11, an<br />

outlay of Rs. 40.00 lac is provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

2.1.50 During 11 th Five Year Plan, the scheme has been reformulated by merging two<br />

schemes i.e. Scheme for Transmission of Technology through Extension, Demonstration and<br />

Training in Horticulture practices and Setting up of Information Collection Centres.<br />

2.1.51 To meet the challenges of WTO, the following specific programmes would be<br />

taken up:-<br />

(1) Increasing productivity of citrus fruits - The Citrus orchards are severely<br />

affected by a phytophthora fungal disease and the fungicide used for its remedy is<br />

very costly. The farmers are reluctant to use it. Therefore, incentive @ Rs. 5000/- per<br />

ha. for 200 ha. would be given. Work on disease free raising of nursery fruit plants in<br />

the polythene bags by disinfecting soil with formalin and solarization method will<br />

also be undertaken.<br />

(2) Vegetable production – With the increase in population, there is arising<br />

demand of fresh Vegetables. The emphasis is being given to increase quality yield<br />

per unit area. To aware the farmers, demonstration will be given with the financial<br />

assistance of Rs.2000/- per plot. During the financial year <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>, 300 progressive<br />

farmers will be covered with the expenditure of Rs.15.00 lac.<br />

(3) Training Camp - <strong>State</strong> level Show/District & village level farmer training<br />

camps will be held for Horticulturists & vegetable growers. International,<br />

National/<strong>State</strong> Level tour of farmers will be arranged.<br />

2.1.52 The objective of the scheme is to provide current technical know-how<br />

relating to horticulture and vegetable programme and scientific use of horticulture inputs like<br />

seeds, fertilizers, plant protection measures etc. Training regarding pruning of trees and weed<br />

control etc. would be provided in a simplified way to the fruits and vegetable growers by
