145. One of the oldest Medical Colleges in the state, Government Medical College,<br />

Patiala needs to be taken up for upgradation under the next phase of PMSSY. The number of<br />

seats in the Government Medical Colleges need to be increased from 50 and 150 to 250. The<br />

Regional Institute of Paramedical Science (RIPS) proposed to be set up in Chandigarh by<br />

GoI should be located in Patiala where the state government is ready to provide 5 acres of<br />

land.<br />

SPORTS AND YOUTH SERVICES<br />

146. To achieve excellence in sports both at national level and international level, the<br />

state government has notified a New Sports Policy on 6 th October, 2010. It envisages<br />

establishing 3 Centres of Excellence in sports, setting up of ultra modern stadiums,<br />

strengthening of existing stadiums with modern facilities and lucrative cash incentives to the<br />

players etc. An outlay of Rs. 48.00 crore is provided for the Annual Plan <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong>.<br />

147. A provision of Rs. 3.00 crore was provided for holding World Kabbadi Cup-<br />

2010 in the <strong>State</strong>. Indian team came out as a winning team. Second World Kabbadi cup is<br />

likely to be held in November-December, <strong>2011</strong>. Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan<br />

(PYKKA) scheme is being successfully implemented in the <strong>State</strong>. Under the scheme, each<br />

village and block gets a grant of Rs. 1.00 lakh and Rs. 5.00 lakh respectively for sports<br />

infrastructure.<br />

148. One state-of-art modern sports complex is being developed on 28 acres of land<br />

at SAS Nagar through PPP mode and the work of setting up of International Hockey Stadium<br />

has started. A world class cricket stadium shall be constructed at Bathinda by the PIDB<br />

through PPP Mode. Rs 142.00 crore will be spent on the construction/up gradation of 6 hockey<br />

stadiums, 8 multipurpose stadiums and 1 sports school at Bathinda. Medal winners of Asian<br />

and Commonwealth games have been honoured recently by the <strong>State</strong> government with<br />

disbursement of cash awards worth Rs. 7.54 crore. The <strong>State</strong> government has instituted<br />

scholarships for top 1100 sports persons worth Rs. 10,000/- per annum for all the 11<br />

recognised sports disciplines in the memory of Sahibzada Ajit Singh and Rs. 5000/- per annum<br />

for 1100 junior sports persons below the age of 16 years in the memory of Sahibzada Fateh<br />

singh Rs 16.50 crore would be spent on these schemes. To further promote the culture of<br />

physical fitness, Gymnasium equipment shall be distributed in the memory of Sahibzada<br />

Jujhar Singh with an outlay of Rs 15 Crore. An outlay of Rs. 10 Crore has been earmarked for<br />
