The purpose of this conference is to bring together an
international group of scholars and practitioners from
diverse disciplines (economics, sociology, public administration,
political economy, business, anthropology,
law, political science, information technology,
journalism, education, etc.) to collectively explore the
multiple facets of the problems of democratic governance,
particularly as they relate to corruption, and to
suggest concrete strategies geared toward solving these
problems in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and other
regions of the world.

des Autorbegriffs in der islamischen Literatur",

Es ist das Ziel des Workshops, Perspektiven zu erproben,
die den gängigen Autorbegriff modifizieren oder
auch ganz ohne Autorbegriff auskommen. Beiträge
aus angrenzenden Disziplinen, in denen die Forschung
zum Themenkreis der Tagung schon weiter
fortgeschritten ist, sind sehr willkommen. Das gilt
insbesondere für die Mediävistik.

� Workshop: “New Roles of the Friday Khutba”,
Copenhagen, 31 August – 1 September 2012
This workshop will examine the roles the khutba
plays; it will explore the emergence of the various
types of mediated sermons (particularly Friday sermons)
throughout the 20th century. While print media
allowed khutbas to reach broader publics, these publics
can now access a khutba repeatedly. Information:

� 4th International Conference of Mediterranean
Worlds: “Domino Effects and Hybridization of the
Mediterranean”, Istanbul, 5-7 September 2012
The goal of this conference is to focus on the effects
of mixture upon various elements in the Mediterranean,
dwelling on outcomes that are not easily labeled as
one thing or other, defining the critical stages of
change. This would, in a sense, be an extension of the
macro-micro history dialectic and the diversity of the
local regional outcomes.

� International Conference: "Fiqh and Ijtihad in
the Contemporary World", The Islamic College,

This multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary conference
will provide a venue to explore new discourses in fiqh
and ijtihad and the relationship between Islamic jurisprudence
other spheres of intellectual/practical activities
including politics, sciences & technologies, economics,
ethics, theology, law, and philosophy. Specific
attention will be given to the role of fiqh and ijtihad
in tackling social problems within and without Muslim
countries.
