The purpose of this conference is to bring together an<br />
international group of scholars <strong>and</strong> practitioners from<br />
diverse disciplines (economics, sociology, public administration,<br />
political economy, business, anthropology,<br />
law, political science, information technology,<br />
journalism, education, etc.) to collectively explore the<br />
multiple facets of the problems of democratic governance,<br />
particularly as they relate to corruption, <strong>and</strong> to<br />
suggest concrete strategies geared toward solving these<br />

� Workshop: “New Roles of the Friday Khutba”,<br />
Copenhagen, 31 August – 1 September 2012<br />
This workshop will examine the roles the khutba<br />
plays; it will explore the emergence of the various<br />
types of mediated sermons (particularly Friday sermons)<br />
throughout the 20th century. While print media<br />
allowed khutbas to reach broader publics, these publics<br />
can now access a khutba repeatedly. Information:<br />

Worlds: “Domino Effects <strong>and</strong> Hybridization of the<br />
Mediterranean”, Istanbul, 5-7 September 2012<br />
The goal of this conference is to focus on the effects<br />
of mixture upon various elements in the Mediterranean,<br />
dwelling on outcomes that are not easily labeled as<br />
one thing or other, defining the critical stages of<br />
change. This would, in a sense, be an extension of the<br />
macro-micro history dialectic <strong>and</strong> the diversity of the<br />

the Contemporary World", The Islamic College,<br />

This multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary conference<br />
will provide a venue to explore new discourses in fiqh<br />
<strong>and</strong> ijtihad <strong>and</strong> the relationship between Islamic jurisprudence<br />

including politics, sciences & technologies, economics,<br />
