� Workshop <strong>and</strong> Colloquium: “Cataloguing of Islamic<br />
Manuscripts”, University of Naples “L’Ori -<br />
entale”, 6-7 December 2012<br />
The Journée d’études (6 December), Cataloguing of<br />
Islamic Manuscripts (Work in Progress) is a workshop<br />
devoted to some current projects of the Series<br />
Catalogorum, the presentation of the manuscript collections<br />
<strong>und</strong>er the process of cataloguing, <strong>and</strong> various<br />
case studies, in which both researchers <strong>and</strong> PhD students<br />
are invited to participate.<br />
The Colloquium (7 December) is dedicated to Codex<br />
<strong>and</strong> Text. The use <strong>and</strong> relevance of codicology,<br />
paleography <strong>and</strong> illumination for textual studies. Its<br />
aim is to highlight the relation between text <strong>and</strong> manuscript<br />
support, <strong>and</strong> focus on interrelations between<br />
codicological studies <strong>and</strong> textual studies in the research<br />
on the history of Islamic manuscript tradition.<br />

The conference aims at elaborating the patterns of<br />

Transformation of Knowledge in the Early Modern<br />
World”, Delhi, 10-21 December 2012<br />
The Winter School aims to explore, from an intellectual<br />
<strong>and</strong> global history perspective, the role that textual<br />
practices, language studies <strong>and</strong> archival policies<br />
have played in the constitution of knowledge across<br />
Asia roughly since 1500. The Winter School will shed<br />
light on the mobility of texts, languages <strong>and</strong> textual<br />
practices across the cultural geographies of Asia – focusing<br />
on Arabic, Syriac, Armenian, Turkish, Sanskrit,<br />
Persian, the vernaculars across India <strong>and</strong> East<br />

The conference is part of the research project, jointly<br />
f<strong>und</strong>ed by the British Arts <strong>and</strong> Humanities Research<br />
Council (AHRC) <strong>and</strong> the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.<br />
This conference seeks to develop new discussions<br />
on the relationship between public violence <strong>and</strong> urban<br />
politics, societies <strong>and</strong> cultures – a topic that despite its<br />
importance <strong>and</strong> relevance to contemporary events has<br />
not yet been the subject of systematic academic interest.<br />
The conference is open to papers dealing with cities<br />
<strong>and</strong> towns of the Arab world, Iran <strong>and</strong> the Ottoman<br />
Empire/Turkey in the early modern <strong>and</strong> modern<br />
periods, approximately from the late 18th Century to<br />
