nothing on your behalf in <strong>the</strong> court <strong>of</strong> Allaah, nor can I do anything in your<br />

favour in <strong>the</strong> Aakhirah unless you say, 'Laa llaaha Illalaah'. If you do so, I shall<br />

testify to this in <strong>the</strong> court <strong>of</strong> your Rabb. At <strong>the</strong> same time, all <strong>the</strong> Arabs shall be in<br />

your control and <strong>the</strong> non-Arabs shall be subservient to you."<br />

Abu Lahab retorted by saying) "May you be destroyed! Have you called us for<br />

this?!" It was in response to this that Allaah revealed <strong>the</strong> verses:<br />

I<br />

May <strong>the</strong> hands <strong>of</strong> Abu Lahab be shattered ,and may he be destroyed.. .<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas !&%&j narrates that Rasulullaah rn climbed <strong>the</strong><br />

hill <strong>of</strong> Safa when <strong>the</strong> following verse <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur'aan was revealed:<br />

(0. RasululJaah @%I First) Warn your closest relatives (about <strong>the</strong><br />

punishment due to those who reject Imaan). {Surah Shu'araa, verse 2 14)<br />

He <strong>the</strong>n called out, 'Yaa Sabaahaa!" (2) In response to this call, everyone ga<strong>the</strong>red<br />

around Rasulullaah @@, some came <strong>the</strong>mselves, while o<strong>the</strong>rs sent<br />

representatives. Addressing <strong>the</strong>m, Rasulullaah @% said, "0 <strong>the</strong> family <strong>of</strong> Abdul<br />

Muttalib! 0 <strong>the</strong> family <strong>of</strong> Fahr! 0 <strong>the</strong> family <strong>of</strong> Ka'b! Tell me. Would you believe<br />

me if I told you that <strong>the</strong> enemy cavalry was preparing to attack you from <strong>the</strong><br />

foot <strong>of</strong> this hill?" When <strong>the</strong>y all responded in <strong>the</strong> affirmative, Rasulullaah @?@<br />

said, "I am <strong>the</strong>n warning you <strong>of</strong> a severe punishment."<br />

Abu Lahab snapped. "May you be destroyed for all <strong>the</strong> day! Have you called us for<br />

this?!" It was in response to this that Allaah revealed <strong>the</strong> verses:<br />

<strong>The</strong> Da'wah Rasulullaah gave to Various Arab<br />

Tribes During <strong>the</strong> Hajj Season<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Ka'b bin Maalik %UW narrates that Rasulullaah @?@<br />

gave Da'wah secretly for <strong>the</strong> first three years. It was during <strong>the</strong> fourth year tha<strong>the</strong><br />

openly began calling people to Islaam. This continued for <strong>the</strong> next ten years<br />

in Makkah. During this time, Rasulullaah @@ invited people to Islaam wherever<br />

<strong>the</strong>y stayed when <strong>the</strong>y arrived for Hajj, even at <strong>the</strong> marketplaces <strong>of</strong> Ukaaz,<br />

Majinna and Dhil Majaaz. He requested <strong>the</strong>m to grant him asylum so that he<br />

(2) <strong>The</strong> phrase may be translated as "Beware <strong>of</strong> an early morning assault!" and was used to alert<br />

people <strong>of</strong> an attack by <strong>the</strong> enemy because battles were waged early in <strong>the</strong> morning. In fact, in<br />

those days when battles continued until <strong>the</strong> evening, <strong>the</strong> armies would return to <strong>the</strong>ir camps and<br />

start again early <strong>the</strong> following morning. When such an alert was sounded, <strong>the</strong> people usually<br />

ga<strong>the</strong>red around <strong>the</strong> person making <strong>the</strong> call<br />

(?) Ahmad. Bukhari and Muslim have also reported <strong>the</strong> Hadith as mentioned in A1 Bidaaya wan<br />

Nihaaya (Vol. 3 Pg. 38).
