<strong>The</strong>y were referring to Hadhrat Ummu Kulthoom ~ Gw, <strong>the</strong> daughter <strong>of</strong><br />

Hadhrat Ali W3wj (and Hadhrat Faatima WGWj). Hadhrat Umar 9GWj said,<br />

"Ummu Saleet is more deserving." Hadhrat Ummu Saleet WGw was a woman<br />

from <strong>the</strong> Ansaar who had pledged allegiance to Rasulullaah m. Hadhrat Umar<br />

?BW&j went on to explain, "Because she sewed water bags for us during <strong>the</strong><br />

Battle <strong>of</strong> uhud." (I)<br />

Women Proceed for <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Khaybar to<br />

Render Services<br />

<strong>The</strong> grandmo<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Hashraj bin Ziyaad L@G(d%j narrates that women<br />

also accompanied Rasulullaah @@ for <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Khaybar. In her narration<br />

she mentions that when Rasulullaah k%% asked <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong> reason for going, <strong>the</strong>y<br />

replied, "We are going out to weave ropes from animal hair to assist in <strong>the</strong> path<br />

<strong>of</strong> Allaah. We shall also nurse <strong>the</strong> wounded, retrieve arrows and give <strong>the</strong> soldiers<br />

barley porridge to drink." (2)<br />

Hadhrat Zuhri narrates that women also participated in <strong>the</strong> battles with<br />

Rasulullaah @%% by providing water for <strong>the</strong> Mujaahideen and nursing <strong>the</strong><br />

wounded. (3)<br />

Hadhrat Ummu Ammaara @%= Fights in <strong>the</strong><br />

Battle <strong>of</strong> Uhud<br />

Hadhrat Sa'eed bin Abu Zaid Ansaari !BW4&.j narrates from Hadhrat Ummu Sa'd<br />

bint Sa'd bin Rabee G8GWj that she 'used to go to her maternal aunt Hadhrat<br />

Ummu Ammaara G8w and ask her to relate her story. Hadhrat Ummu<br />

Arnmaara lB%&&j would say, "It was at <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> day that I ventured<br />

out with a bag <strong>of</strong> water to see what was happening to <strong>the</strong> Muslims. When I<br />

reached Rasulullaah w, he was with his companions and <strong>the</strong> Muslims were<br />

enjoying victory and steadfastness. When <strong>the</strong> Muslims later started losing <strong>the</strong><br />

battle, I drew close to Rasulullaah @% and openly started fighting. As I fended<br />

<strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen from Rasulullaah &?%, I also fired some arrows with a<br />

bow until I sustained many injuries."<br />

<strong>The</strong> narrator Hadhrat Ummu Sa'd @GM says that she noticed a very deep<br />

wound on <strong>the</strong> shoulder <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Ummu Ammaara W W and asked her who<br />

had afflicted it. She replied, "It was Ibn Qami'Ahmad. May Allaah disgrace him!<br />

When <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> WGWj had withdrawn from Rasulullaah @%, he came<br />

shouting, 'Show me where is Muhammad! I cannot be safe if he is safe!' Myself,<br />
