Hadhrat Haraam wWj <strong>the</strong> bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Ummu Sulaym WW, a<br />

crippled Sahabi -j and ano<strong>the</strong>r Sahabi k-3 from some tribe left (to<br />

deliver <strong>the</strong> letter). Hadhrat Haraam %.lKi said to <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r two, "Stay close until<br />

I return to you. If <strong>the</strong>y grant me safety, you join me, and if <strong>the</strong>y kill me, you can<br />

go back to your companions." Hadhrat Haraam $dGW <strong>the</strong>n approached <strong>the</strong><br />

Mushrikeen and said, "Will you grant me safety so that I may deliver <strong>the</strong> message<br />

<strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah m?" As he was busy talking to <strong>the</strong>m, <strong>the</strong>y motioned to a man to<br />

come up to Hadhrat Haraam %Pw from <strong>the</strong> back and stabbed him with a spear.<br />

One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> narrators by <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> Hammaam says that he was stabbed with a<br />

spear that pierced right through his body. He <strong>the</strong>n exclaimed, "Allaahu Akbar! By<br />

<strong>the</strong> Rabb <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kabah, I am successful!" <strong>The</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> i4!3!3&Gj (who were with<br />

Hadhrat Haraam %.lGm) joined up with <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs but <strong>the</strong>y were all martyred<br />

except for <strong>the</strong> crippled Sahabi W3Wj who had been on top <strong>of</strong> a hillock.<br />

It was with reference to <strong>the</strong>se martyred <strong>Sahabah</strong> W 5 that Allaah revealed <strong>the</strong><br />

following verse <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur'aan that was later abrogated:<br />

"We have met our Rabb Who is happy with us and has made us happy."<br />

For thirty mornings afterwards, Rasulullaah @%! cursed <strong>the</strong> Ri'al, Dhakwaan,<br />

Banu Lihyaan and Usayya tribes who opposed Allaah and His Rasool m.<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r narration <strong>of</strong> Bukhari states that when Hadhrat Haraam %,- <strong>the</strong> uncle<br />

<strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Anas ?BGWj was stabbed with a spear on <strong>the</strong> expedition to Bir<br />

Ma'oona, he wiped his blood on his face and was heard saying, "By <strong>the</strong> Rabb <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Kabah, I am successful!" A narration reported by Waaqidi says that <strong>the</strong> person<br />

who martyred Hadhrat Yaraam Ww was Jabbaar bin Salma Kilaabi. When he<br />

stabbed Hadhrat Haraam !52G@!3j with a spear, Hadhrat Haraam cried out,<br />

"By <strong>the</strong> Rabb <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kabah, I am successful!" Afterwards when Jabbaar asked<br />

about <strong>the</strong> meaning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> statement "I am successful", <strong>the</strong> people told him that<br />

Hadhrat Haraam %%&$5 was referring to his successful entry into Jannah. He<br />

<strong>the</strong>n said, "By Allaah! He has spoken <strong>the</strong> truth." Jabbaar <strong>the</strong>n accepted Islaam. (')<br />

During <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Mu'ta<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Rawaaha ~,G@35 Weeps<br />

upon Leaving and His Poem asking for Martyrdom<br />

Hadhrat Urwa bin Zubayr @- reports that Rasulullaah @& sent an<br />

expedition to Mu'ta in Jumaadal Ula 8 A.H. Rasulullaah appointed Hadhrat<br />

k%Qn Haaritha BGw as commander <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> expedition. Rasulullaah <strong>the</strong>n<br />

added, "If aid is killed, Ja'far bin Abi Taalib should take command and if Ja'far is<br />

killed, <strong>the</strong>n Abdullaah bin Rawaaha should take command." <strong>The</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> i&3-<br />

prepared <strong>the</strong>ir provisions for <strong>the</strong> journey an_d <strong>the</strong>n got ready to leave. <strong>The</strong>y were<br />

three thousand in number. When <strong>the</strong>y started leaving, <strong>the</strong> people came to bid<br />

farewell to <strong>the</strong> commanders that Rasulullaah @% appointed.<br />
