<strong>the</strong> shepherds in <strong>the</strong>:grazing lands. ~adhrat ~amir S,- used to return <strong>the</strong><br />

goats in <strong>the</strong> evening with <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r shepherds, but would walk very slowly (so<br />

that he would be left behind) and <strong>the</strong>n take <strong>the</strong> goats to Hadhrat Abu Bakr<br />

S- once <strong>the</strong> night became dark. Hadhrat Abdullaah ~ C <strong>the</strong> W son <strong>of</strong><br />

Hadhrat Abu Bakr Sw used to spend <strong>the</strong> day in Makkah finding out <strong>the</strong> news<br />

and <strong>the</strong>n inform Rasulullaah k!%% and Hadhrat Abu Bakr %UWj about this when<br />

he met <strong>the</strong>m at night. He <strong>the</strong>n left <strong>the</strong>m late at night and was in Makkah by <strong>the</strong><br />

dawn.<br />

Leaves <strong>the</strong> Cave and Heads for<br />

Madinah<br />

(After three nights) Rasulullaah and Hadhrat Abu Bakr $%Uw left <strong>the</strong> cave<br />

and took a route along <strong>the</strong> coast. Hadhrat Abu Bakr WaW travelled in front <strong>of</strong><br />

Rasulullaah &!%% but whenever he felt any danger from <strong>the</strong> rear, he travelled at<br />

<strong>the</strong> back. <strong>The</strong> entire journey passed in this manner. Hadhrat Abu Bakr WGw<br />

was a well known man. <strong>The</strong>refore, whenever someone met him, <strong>the</strong>y asked who<br />

was with him. He would reply, "He is a guide who is showing me <strong>the</strong> way." By<br />

saying this, he meant that Rasulullaah @&! was guiding him in Deen but <strong>the</strong><br />

person thought that Rasulullaah #$%% was someone showing him <strong>the</strong> road. When<br />

<strong>the</strong>y reached <strong>the</strong> settlement <strong>of</strong> Qudayd which lay on <strong>the</strong>ir route, someone told<br />

<strong>the</strong> Banu Mudlaj tribe (who lived <strong>the</strong>re), "I have seen two riders near <strong>the</strong> coast. I<br />

think that <strong>the</strong>y are <strong>the</strong> men from <strong>the</strong> Quraysh whom you are searching for."<br />

Suraaqa bin Maalik said to <strong>the</strong> person, "Those are two men whom we have sent<br />

out to do some work for <strong>the</strong> people." (Suraaqa knew that that <strong>the</strong> riders were<br />

Rasulullaah @%% and Hadhrat Abu Bakr ?&$w, but said this so that he could<br />

have <strong>the</strong>m to himself and earn <strong>the</strong> reward). Suraaqa <strong>the</strong>n called for his slave<br />

woman and whispered to her to get his horse. He <strong>the</strong>n set out on <strong>the</strong> trail <strong>of</strong><br />

Rasulullaah #$%% and Hadhrat Abu Bakr S,15=. ('1 <strong>The</strong> story <strong>of</strong> Suraaqa will<br />

shortly be related, Insha Allaah.<br />

Hadhrat Abu Bakr !&lGWj Fears for Rasulullaah<br />

when <strong>the</strong>y Leave <strong>the</strong> Cave and Hadhrat Umar<br />

@)Z$@@j Praises Hadhrat Abu Bah s)S#&j<br />

Hadhrat Ibn Seereen narrates that during <strong>the</strong> Khilaafah <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Umar #,Gw,<br />

mention was made <strong>of</strong> some <strong>Sahabah</strong> WWj and it appeared as if <strong>the</strong> people<br />

regarded Hadhrat Umar %$w to be better than Hadhrat Abu Bakr W ,W.<br />

When Hadhrat Umar ~,Uli!& heard about this, he said, "I swear by Allaah that a<br />

single night <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Abu Bakr WGWj is better than <strong>the</strong> entire family <strong>of</strong> Umar<br />

and single day <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Abu Bakr ~,Gw is better than <strong>the</strong> entire family <strong>of</strong><br />

Umar. When Rasulullaah @@ left for <strong>the</strong> cave that night, Hadhrat Abu Bakr<br />

@m was with him. At times he walked ahead <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah @@$ and at o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
