Rasulullaah @%$ was greatly pleased with <strong>the</strong>se words <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Sa'd 3Gw<br />

and was rejuvenated. He <strong>the</strong>n said, "March and hear <strong>the</strong> glad tidings that Allaah<br />

had promised me that one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> two groups (ei<strong>the</strong>r capturing <strong>the</strong> caravan or <strong>the</strong><br />

defeating <strong>the</strong> Quraysh army). By Allaah! It is as if I can actually see <strong>the</strong> places<br />

where <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen will fall dead." ( I)<br />

Rasulullaah @g Gives Encouragement before a<br />

Battle and <strong>the</strong> Statement <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Umayr bin<br />

Hamaam a$$!&<br />

Hadhrat Anas says, "Rasulullaah sent Basbas ?%%% to spy on what<br />

<strong>the</strong> caravan <strong>of</strong> Abu Sufyaan was doing. 'When he reported back to Rasulullaah<br />

@@, <strong>the</strong>re was none with him in <strong>the</strong> room besides myself." <strong>The</strong> narrator says<br />

that Hadhrat Anas %,Uw also mentioned <strong>the</strong> names <strong>of</strong> some wives <strong>of</strong><br />

Rasulullaah @$% (who were in <strong>the</strong> room) but he (<strong>the</strong> narrator) does not<br />

remember who <strong>the</strong>y were. After Hadhrat Basbas %%5Wj had informed<br />

Rasulullaah @?@ about <strong>the</strong> news, Rasulullaah t% left <strong>the</strong> house and<br />

announced, "We are leaving in pursuit (<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> caravan). Whoever has his mount<br />

present should ride with us." When some <strong>Sahabah</strong> ,+43Wj requested permission<br />

to fetch <strong>the</strong>ir animals that were in <strong>the</strong> upper part <strong>of</strong> Madinah, Rasulullaah @@<br />

said, "No. Only those whose mounts are present may ride."<br />

Rasulullaah @@ and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> W G <strong>the</strong>n ~ rode <strong>of</strong>f and arrived at Badr<br />

before <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen. When <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen arrived, Rasulullaah said to<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> W~Wj, "None <strong>of</strong> you should do anything until I act." When <strong>the</strong><br />

Mushrikeen came close, Rasulullaah @$% said, "Stand up and advance to a<br />

Jannah that is as wide as <strong>the</strong> heavens and <strong>the</strong> earth!" Hadhrat Umayr bin<br />

Hamaam !3Wj from <strong>the</strong> Ansaar asked, "0 Rasulullaah @?&! A Jannah that is as<br />

wide as <strong>the</strong> heavens and <strong>the</strong> earth?" "Certainly," confirmed Rasulullaah @@.<br />

Hadhrat Umayr i2G3&j exclaimed, "Wow!" When Rasulullaah @@ asked him why<br />

he said this, Hadhrat Umayr WWj replied, "0 Rasulullaah m! By Allaah!<br />

<strong>The</strong>re is no reason o<strong>the</strong>r than that I should be among its inhabitants."<br />

Rasulullaah @% assured him, "You are certainly from amongst its inhabitants."<br />

Hadhrat Umayr ~,UWj took out some dates from his quiver and started eating<br />

<strong>the</strong>m. However, he <strong>the</strong>n said, "If I live until I have eaten <strong>the</strong>se dates, it would take<br />

too much time." He <strong>the</strong>n threw down <strong>the</strong> dates he had left and jumped into <strong>the</strong><br />

thick <strong>of</strong> battle until he was martyred. May Allaah shower His mercy on him. (*)<br />

Ibn Is'haaq narrates that Rasulullaah went to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> @GWj to give<br />

<strong>the</strong>m encouragement saying, "1 swear by <strong>the</strong> Being Who controls <strong>the</strong> life <strong>of</strong><br />

Muhammad! Allaah shall enter into Jannah every man who fights <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen<br />

today and is martyred while he is patient, hoping for rewards from Allaah,<br />

narrated it in detail while Haakim (Vo1.3 Pg.426) has narrated it in brief.
