<strong>The</strong> Bravery <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Ammaar bin<br />

He Lends Courage to <strong>the</strong> Muslims and Fights<br />

Bravely During <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Yamaamah<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar W%!.G reports that during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Yamaamah,<br />

he saw Hadhrat Ammaar bin Yaasir ~G$i?&j standing on a boulder and shouting,<br />

"0 Assembly <strong>of</strong> Muslims! Are you running away from Jannah? I am Ammaar bin<br />

Yaasir! Are you running away from Jannah? I am Ammaar bin Yaasir! Come to<br />

me!" Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar !$3- says that he watched Hadhrat Ammaar<br />

bin Yaasir %lBw fighting extremely fiercely even though his ear was cut and it<br />

hung loose. (' )<br />

His Desire for Jannah as he Fought<br />

~adhrat Abu Abdur Rahmaan Sulami WZW says that he participated in <strong>the</strong><br />

Battle <strong>of</strong> Siffeen by <strong>the</strong> side <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Ali ~ <strong>The</strong>y ~ had j appointed . two men<br />

to guard Hadhrat Ali %lGw, who kept launching attacks whenever he could<br />

catch <strong>the</strong> opposition unawares. Hadhrat Ali would <strong>the</strong>n not return from<br />

<strong>the</strong> attack until his sword was well coloured with blood. He would <strong>the</strong>n say, "Do<br />

excuse me (for returning but) I swear by Allaah that I do not return until my<br />

sword has been dented."<br />

Hadhrat Abu Abdur Rahmaan Sulami S3!Sl% narrates fur<strong>the</strong>r that he saw<br />

Hadhrat Ammaar bin Yaasir S,GWj and Hadhrat Haashim bin Utba %Wj as<br />

Hadhrat Ali ?31X% was fighting between two rows <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> enemy. (Looking at<br />

Hadhrat Ali %l,Gw,) Hadhrat Ammaar S,Wj said, "0 Haashim! By Allaah, this<br />

man's commands are being violated and his army is being deserted. 0 Haashim!<br />

Jannah lies beneath flashing swords. Today I shall meet those I love, Muhammad<br />

@i% and his group. 0 Haashim! You are one-eyed and one-eyed people are no<br />

good if <strong>the</strong>y do not swamp <strong>the</strong> battlefield." (With this incitement from Hadhrat<br />

Ammaar !$3,Gw) Hadhrat Haashim afW&% waved <strong>the</strong> flag and said (<strong>the</strong> following<br />

couplets which mean):<br />

"This one-eyed man has spent his life in search <strong>of</strong> a home for his family until he<br />

has become tired<br />

He will now fight until he defeats <strong>the</strong> opposition or is defeated"<br />

He <strong>the</strong>n went into one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> valleys <strong>of</strong> Siffeen (to fight). Hadhrat Abu Abdur<br />

Rahmaan Sulami B,WG says, "I <strong>the</strong>n saw <strong>the</strong> SahabaJh i43!3@kj <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah<br />

@% follow Hadhrat Ammaar !$3=j as if he were <strong>the</strong>ir fl&. (2)<br />

In ano<strong>the</strong>r narration, Hadhrat Abu Abdur Rahmaan Sulami afWIi& says, "I noticed<br />

that (during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Siffeen) whenever Hadhrat Ammaar $iW4% went into<br />

any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> valleys <strong>of</strong> Siffeen, all <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> 'i@Jm <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah 4k%% who<br />

were <strong>the</strong>re followed him. I also saw him approach Haashim bin Utba !iW&% who<br />
