In conformance .with <strong>the</strong> above verse, Hadhrat Umar %,W divorced two <strong>of</strong><br />

his wives whom he had married as a Mushrik. Consequently, Mu'aawiya bin<br />

Abi Sufyaan married one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m while <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r was married to Safwaan bin<br />

Umayyah.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Incident <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Abu ~hseer %ISm and <strong>the</strong><br />

Two Men who were sent after him<br />

After <strong>the</strong> incident at Hudaybiyyah, Rasulullaah @&% returned to Madinah where a<br />

Muslim from <strong>the</strong> Quraysh called Abu Baseer ?BG3Wj came to him. However, <strong>the</strong><br />

Quraysh had dispatched two men after him to remind Rasulullaah @% about <strong>the</strong><br />

-<br />

treaty. Rasulullaah <strong>the</strong>refore handed him over to <strong>the</strong> two men. <strong>The</strong> two men<br />

left'with him and when <strong>the</strong>y stopped to eat some dates at Dhul Hulayfah, Hadhrat<br />

Abu Baseer BLi3%&5 said to one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m, "By Allaah! I see that you have an<br />

extremely fine sword." <strong>The</strong> man drew <strong>the</strong> sword from <strong>the</strong> sheath and said, "By<br />

Allaah! It is fine indeed. I have tried it again and again." Hadhrat Abu Baseer<br />

said,'"Let me have a look at it." When <strong>the</strong> man handed it over, Hadhrat<br />

Abu Baseer ?&lmj struck him, killing him instantly.<br />

<strong>The</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r person dashed for Madinah and when he came running into <strong>the</strong><br />

Masjid, Rasulullaah @$%* commented, "It seems as if something terribly frightful<br />

has occurred to him." When <strong>the</strong> person reached <strong>the</strong> Rasulullaah @%%, he<br />

exclaimed, "MY companion has been killed and I will also be killed." ~.ollowin~<br />

closk behind him came Hadhrat Abu Baseer !ZdW%. He said, "0 Rasulullaah<br />

w! Allaah has absolved you <strong>of</strong> your responsibility when you returned me.<br />

Allaah has now freed me from my captors." Rasulullaah @%% said, "Oh dear! This<br />

man is a true warmonger. If only <strong>the</strong>re was someone who could do something<br />

for him." Hadhrat Abu Baseer ?iWW6 understood from this that Rasulullaah @%%<br />

would return him again. He <strong>the</strong>refore left Madinah and settled along <strong>the</strong> coast.<br />

Hadhrat Abu Jandal %IGw J~ins up with Hadhrat<br />

Abu Baseer ~,Eiw and <strong>the</strong>y attack <strong>the</strong> Caravans <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>Quraysh<br />

Hadhrat Abu Jandal ikl,t3W <strong>the</strong> son <strong>of</strong>'suhayl bin Arnr managed to escape from<br />

<strong>the</strong> Quraysh and joined up with Hadhrat Abu Baseer %3w. <strong>The</strong>reafter, every<br />

man who accepted Islaam and left <strong>the</strong> Quraysh joined up with Hadhrat Abu<br />

Baseer BC3&& until <strong>the</strong>y grew into a large group. <strong>The</strong> narrator states, "By Allaah!<br />

Every caravan <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Quraysh travelling to Shaam that <strong>the</strong>y heard about, <strong>the</strong>y<br />

attacked, killing <strong>the</strong> people and taking <strong>the</strong>ir goods." <strong>The</strong> Quraysh eventually<br />

(grew weary and) sent a message to Rasulullaah @@, imploring him in <strong>the</strong> name<br />

<strong>of</strong> Allaah and by <strong>the</strong> family ties <strong>the</strong>y shared that he should call this group to<br />

Madinah. <strong>The</strong>y also added that whoever came to Rasulullaah @?@ (from<br />

Makkah) as a Muslim afterwards would be left in peace (without having to return<br />

to Makkah). Rasulullaah $%& <strong>the</strong>n called <strong>the</strong>m to Madinah. It was <strong>the</strong>n that<br />

Allaah revealed <strong>the</strong> following verses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur'aan:
