Hadhrat Awf bin Maalik Ash'ja'ee SWj narrates that he was with seven, eight or<br />

nine persons in <strong>the</strong> company <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah @% when he said, "Will you not<br />

pledge allegiance to <strong>the</strong> Rasool <strong>of</strong> Allaah?" When Rasulullaah w repeated this<br />

three times, <strong>the</strong>y stretched out <strong>the</strong>ir hands and pledged <strong>the</strong>ir allegiance at <strong>the</strong><br />

hands <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah w. <strong>The</strong>y <strong>the</strong>n asked, "0 Rasulullaah @@! Now that we<br />

have pledged our allegiance, do inform us what <strong>the</strong> conditions <strong>of</strong> our pledge are."<br />

Rasulullaah k@.% replied, "You have pledged that you will worship Allaah without<br />

ascribing any partners to Him, that you will perform <strong>the</strong> five salaahs ..."<br />

Rasulullaah <strong>the</strong>n whispered ano<strong>the</strong>r condition, which was, "...that you will<br />

not ask anything from people."<br />

Hadhrat Awf bin Maalik $ii&%W says that he had seen persons from this group<br />

who would not even ask<br />

anyone to pass <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong>ir whip which had fallen (from<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir hands as <strong>the</strong>y rode <strong>the</strong>ir animals). (2)<br />

Hadhrat Thowbaan ?&%@= pledges that he would<br />

Hadhrat Abu Umaamah narrates that ~asulullaah k%% once asked, "Who<br />

would like to pledge <strong>the</strong>ir allegiance?" Hadhrat Thowbaan who was <strong>the</strong><br />

slave <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah @% said, "Do accept our pledge <strong>of</strong> allegiance, 0<br />

Rasulullaah m." Rasulullaah @%%said, "Pledge that you would not ask<br />

anyone for anything." Hadhrat Thowbaan ?&I!%&$ asked, 'What will one receive<br />

for making this pledge?" Rasulullaah @% replied, "Jannah." Hadhrat Thowbaan<br />

<strong>the</strong>n made this pledge with Rasulullaah w. Hadhrat Abu Umaamah<br />

iF&h% says that he saw Hadhrat Thowbaan B,%W riding amongst a large crowd<br />

in Makkah and even when his whip sometimes fell on someone's shoulders and<br />

<strong>the</strong> person would attempt to give it back to him, he would not allow it and would<br />

dismount <strong>the</strong> animal to pick it up himself. (3) O<strong>the</strong>r narrations(4) report that<br />
