" That was <strong>the</strong> first sword drawn for <strong>the</strong> pleasure <strong>of</strong>Allaah<br />

<strong>The</strong> sword <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> be/oved leader Zubayr %GC$j<br />

In <strong>the</strong> defence <strong>of</strong>Deen, it happened by <strong>the</strong> grace <strong>of</strong> his courage<br />

ft occasionally happens that one who hears a lot musters many forms <strong>of</strong><br />

courage ( )<br />

Hadhrat Urwa W,GC= narrates that after accepting Islaam, Hadhrat Zubayr bin<br />

Awwaam ~.BW once heard a whisper from Shaytaan stating that ~asulullaah<br />

%?@ had been captured. Although he was only a boy <strong>of</strong> twelve years, he drew<br />

his sword and searched <strong>the</strong> gullies <strong>of</strong> Makkah. At that time, Rasulullaah @&<br />

was in <strong>the</strong> upper area <strong>of</strong> Makkah when Hadhrat Zubayr @,GW met him with<br />

sword in hand. Rasulullaah @@ enquired, "What is <strong>the</strong> matter?" "I heard that you<br />

had been captured," he replied. "What were intending to do in that case?"<br />

Rasulullaah @'@ asked. Hadhrat Zubayr 3Gw replied, "I had intended to use<br />

this sword on whoever it was who captured you." Rasulullaah @# <strong>the</strong>n prayed<br />

for Hadhrat Zubayr ~ ,BW and for his sword and told him that he could leave.<br />

His was <strong>the</strong> first sword drawn in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong> Allaah. (2)<br />

Hadhrat Zubayr ~,Gwj Kills Talha Abdari During<br />

<strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Uhud<br />

Ibn Is'haaq narrates that Talha bin Abu Talha Abdari bore <strong>the</strong> flag <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Mushrikeen during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Uhud. When he called for someone to challenge<br />

him to a duel, <strong>the</strong> Muslims hesitated. <strong>The</strong> only person to accept <strong>the</strong> challenge<br />

was Hadhrat Zubayr bin Awwaam ?3B&. Hadhrat Zubayr 3,GW leapt on to<br />

Talha's own camel, threw him <strong>of</strong>f and killed him with his own sword. In praise <strong>of</strong><br />

him, Rasulullaah @& said, "Every Nabi has a devoted friend in Jannah and mine<br />

shall be Zubayr." Rasulullaah also said, "Had Zubayr not accepted <strong>the</strong><br />

challenge, I would have done so myself after seeing <strong>the</strong> hesitance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs." (3)<br />

Hadhrat Zubayr %,GGw@j' Kills Naufal Makhzoomi<br />

and Ano<strong>the</strong>r Person<br />

Ibn Is'haaq narrates that during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Khandaq, Naufal bin Abdullaah bin<br />

Mughiera Makhzoomi stepped ahead <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ranks <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen and issued<br />

a challenge for someone to fight him. Hadhrat Zubayr bin Awwaam ~ G %<br />

responded and struck Naufal so forcefully with his sword that Naufal's body was<br />

split into two and Hadhrat Zubayr t's sword was dented. Hadhrat Zubayr 3Gwj<br />

<strong>the</strong>n returned reciting <strong>the</strong> following couplets (which meant):<br />

'7 am a man who defends himse/f and a/so defends<br />

<strong>The</strong> chosen and unlettered ~ abi~(~)<br />
