Laat and Uzza were deities apart from Allaah. In fact, <strong>the</strong> torture was so harsh<br />

that if a dung beetle was passing and <strong>the</strong>y asked, 'Is this dung beetle your deity<br />

apart from Allaah?' he would say, 'Yes.' <strong>The</strong>y were forced to say this to save <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

' lives because <strong>the</strong> torture was too much to bear."<br />

<strong>The</strong> Condition <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah @& and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong><br />

@aW13 after Migrating to Madinah<br />

Hadhrat Ubay bin Ka'b %%w says that once Rasulullaah and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong><br />

i45.- arrived in Madinah and were hosted by <strong>the</strong> Ansaar, <strong>the</strong> Arabs started<br />

fighting <strong>the</strong>m from a united platform. <strong>The</strong>y were <strong>the</strong>n forced to carry <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

weapons day and night. <strong>The</strong>y would say to each o<strong>the</strong>r, "Will <strong>the</strong> time ever come<br />

when we can spend <strong>the</strong>. night in peace without having to fear anything besides<br />

Allaah?" It was on this occasion that Allaah revealed <strong>the</strong> following ver9 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Qur'aan:<br />

Allaah has promised those <strong>of</strong> you who have Imaan and who do good<br />

actions that He will definitely make <strong>the</strong>m successors (<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> rulers) on<br />

earth just as He had made those before <strong>the</strong>m successors. And He will<br />

certainly grant (great) strength to <strong>the</strong> Deen that Ye has chosen for <strong>the</strong>m<br />

and will certainly replace <strong>the</strong>ir fear with peace (on condition that) <strong>the</strong>y<br />

worship Me and do not ascribe any as partngr to Myself. Those who are<br />

ungrateful after this are sinful indeed. {Surah Noor, verse 55)(2)<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r narration quotes.from Hadhrat Ubay bin Ka'b $BGw that <strong>the</strong> above<br />

verse <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur'aan was revealed when <strong>the</strong> Arabs started fighting <strong>the</strong> Muslims<br />

from a united platform once Rasulullaah @& and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> @,- migrated<br />

to Madinah and were accommodated by <strong>the</strong> Ansaar. (3)<br />

Expedition<br />

Hadhrat Abu Moosa Ash'ari ~~ narrates that during one <strong>of</strong> expeditions <strong>the</strong>y<br />

fought with Rasulullaah @@!, (transport was so scarce that) six people had to<br />

take turns riding a camel. He says fur<strong>the</strong>r that (because <strong>of</strong> walking barefoot on<br />

rocky land) <strong>the</strong>ir feet were cut and not only were his feet cut, his nails actually<br />
