Rasulullaah k$%% <strong>the</strong>n gave <strong>the</strong> order to collect all <strong>the</strong>ir leftover provisions in a<br />

dish, after which he made du'aa. <strong>The</strong>reafter, he told <strong>the</strong>m all to bring <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

satchels and each person's satchel was filled. ('I<br />

Hadhrat Umar ?&2Gm narrates that <strong>the</strong>y werefwith Rasulullaah @?% on an<br />

expedition when <strong>the</strong>y said, "0 Rasulullaah @&! <strong>The</strong> enemy is here. <strong>The</strong>y have<br />

eaten well while our people are hungry." <strong>The</strong> Ansaar <strong>of</strong>fered, "Should we not<br />

slaughter our camels and feed <strong>the</strong> people?" Rasulullaah @% said, "Whoever has<br />

any leftover food should bring it here." While some people brought a Mudd,<br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs brought a ~ aa(~). Some brought more while o<strong>the</strong>rs brought less. <strong>The</strong> sum<br />

<strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong> food <strong>the</strong> people brought was twenty-odd Saa. Rasulullaah @@ <strong>the</strong>n sat<br />

aside and prayed to Allaah to bless <strong>the</strong> food. <strong>The</strong>reaRer, he said, "Take but do not<br />

loot."<br />

<strong>The</strong> Muslims <strong>the</strong>n started taking, someone in his basket and ano<strong>the</strong>r in his bag.<br />

Everyone filled <strong>the</strong>ir satchels and people even tied knots in <strong>the</strong> sleeves and filled<br />

<strong>the</strong>m (sleeves were made very wide in those days). When everyone had finished<br />

taking, <strong>the</strong> food was still <strong>the</strong> same as it had been at <strong>the</strong> beginning. Rasulullaah<br />

@% <strong>the</strong>m said, "I testify that <strong>the</strong>re is none worthy <strong>of</strong> worship but Allaah and that<br />

I am Allaah's Rasul. Whoever says this with sincerity, Allaah will save him from<br />

<strong>the</strong> heat <strong>of</strong> Jahannam." (3)<br />

Hadhrat Sahl bin Sa'd ?Z&W6 says, "<strong>The</strong>re was a woman from amongst our tribe<br />

who used to grow beetroot in her garden. Every Friday she would remove <strong>the</strong><br />

beetroot, place it in a pot toge<strong>the</strong>r with a handful <strong>of</strong> barley which she would<br />

grind. <strong>The</strong> beetroot <strong>the</strong>n served <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> meat. After <strong>the</strong> Jumu'ah salaah,<br />

we used to go to her and greet her. She would <strong>the</strong>n serve <strong>the</strong> dish to us. We<br />

looked forward to Pridays because <strong>of</strong> this meal." Ano<strong>the</strong>r narration states that<br />

<strong>the</strong>re was no fat and no stickiness in <strong>the</strong> meal and that <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> &EWM<br />

would be very happy on Fridays (because <strong>of</strong> this food). (4)<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> '@LZWj eat Locusts and never Ate<br />

Bread made <strong>of</strong> Wheat during <strong>the</strong> Period <strong>of</strong><br />

Ignorance<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abi Awfa ?@@!33 narrates that <strong>the</strong>y fought seven battles<br />

with Rasulullaah @@ in which <strong>the</strong>y ate locusts. (5)<br />

Hadhrat Abu Barzah %%5%&j narrates, "During an expedition, we confronted some<br />

Mushrikeen and managed to chase <strong>the</strong>m away from <strong>the</strong>ir place where <strong>the</strong>y had<br />
