this, he recognised who she was. He <strong>the</strong>n smiled and called her. Hadhrat Hind<br />

grabbed hold <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah W s hand and pleaded her case. When<br />

Rasulullaah @%$ asked her if she was indeed Hind, she said, "May Allaah forgive<br />

what has happened in <strong>the</strong> past."<br />

Rasulullaah @& <strong>the</strong>n turned away from her (towards <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r women present)<br />

and (continuing with <strong>the</strong> formal pledge <strong>of</strong> allegiance), he said, "And will not<br />

commit adultery." Hadhrat Hind @K@& said, "Does a respectable woman ever<br />

commit adultery?" Rasulullaah replied, "By Allaah! A respectable woman<br />

never commits adultery." Continuing fur<strong>the</strong>r, Rasulullaah @@ said, "And will not<br />

kill <strong>the</strong>ir children." Hadhrat Hind G@@Q& again interrupted by saying, "It was you<br />

who killed <strong>the</strong>m during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Badr. However, you and <strong>the</strong>y know more."<br />

Rasulullaah @$% completed <strong>the</strong> Bay'ah by reciting <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> verse, '"rhat<br />

<strong>the</strong>y will not kill <strong>the</strong>ir children, that <strong>the</strong>y will not come forth with slander which<br />

<strong>the</strong>y fabricate before <strong>the</strong>ir hands and legs and that <strong>the</strong>y will not disobey you (0<br />

in any good."<br />

<strong>The</strong> narrator says that here Rasulullaah @%! forbade <strong>the</strong> women from wailing<br />

when someone died because during <strong>the</strong> Period <strong>of</strong> Ignorance, (when wailing)<br />

women used to tear <strong>the</strong>ir clo<strong>the</strong>s, scratch <strong>the</strong>ir'faces, pull <strong>the</strong>ir hair and pray for<br />

(<strong>the</strong>ir own) destruction and death. (')<br />

Hadhrat Usayd bin Abi Usayd Barraad narrates from one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> women who<br />

pledged allegiance to Rasulullaah @%% that amongst <strong>the</strong> things that Rasulullaah<br />

@& required <strong>the</strong>m to pledge was that <strong>the</strong>y would not disobey him in any good,<br />

would not scratch <strong>the</strong>ir faces, would not dishevel <strong>the</strong>ir hair, would not tear <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

collars and would not pray for destruction. (2)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Bay'ah <strong>of</strong> Children who Had Not Yet<br />

Come <strong>of</strong> Age<br />

Hadhrat Hasan, Husayn, Abdullaah bin Abbaas<br />

and Abdullaah bin Ja'far &3@$&!23 Pledge <strong>The</strong>ir<br />

Allegiance<br />

Hadhrat Muhammad bin Ali bin Husayn N2G&l&j narrates that Rasulullaah @$%<br />

accepted <strong>the</strong> pledge <strong>of</strong> allegiance from Hadhrat Hasan, Husayn, Abdullaah bin<br />

Abbaas and Abdullaah bin Ja'far i@'%@% while <strong>the</strong>y were all still youngsters who<br />

had not yet grown beards or come <strong>of</strong> age. Rasulullaah did not accept <strong>the</strong><br />

pledge <strong>of</strong> allegiance from any o<strong>the</strong>r children besides those <strong>of</strong> his family. (3)<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Zubayr ~ G and W<br />

Abdullaah bin Ja'far !&EW pledge <strong>the</strong>ir allegiance<br />
