<strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Mu'aawiya ?iW&Gj. When his illness worsened, he said to his<br />

companions, "Load me on an animal after I die and bury me beneath your feet<br />

when yoii stand in your rows in front <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> enemy." <strong>The</strong>y did as he requested.<br />

<strong>The</strong> narration still continues fur<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

Hadhrat Abu Dhabyaan also narrates that when Hadhrat Abu Ayyoob 8- was<br />

on a military campaign under <strong>the</strong> command <strong>of</strong> Yazeed bin Mu'aawiya, he said,<br />

"Take me to enemy territory after I die and bury me beneath you feet wherever<br />

you clash with <strong>the</strong> enemy." <strong>The</strong>reafter he said, "<strong>The</strong> person who dies without<br />

ascribing partners to Allaah shall enter Jannah." (2)<br />

Hadhrat Abu Khaythama SGwj Forsakes <strong>the</strong><br />

Luxuries <strong>of</strong> this world and Proceeds in <strong>the</strong> Path <strong>of</strong><br />

Allaah<br />

Hadhrat Ibn Is'haaq yW&l&Sj narrates that it was a few days after<br />

~asulullaah4!%% had already left (for Tabook) that Hadhrat Abu Khaythama<br />

~ , - returned home on an extremely hot day. He found his two wives beneath<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir shelters in his orchard. Each one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m had sprinkled water on <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

shelters and kept cold water for him toge<strong>the</strong>r with food <strong>the</strong>y had prepared. When<br />

he entered <strong>the</strong> orchard and stood at <strong>the</strong> door <strong>of</strong> a shelter, he saw his wives and<br />

what <strong>the</strong>y had done for him. He <strong>the</strong>n said, "~asulullaah@% is sweltering in <strong>the</strong><br />

sun, hot winds and heat while Abu Khaythama is enjoying cool shade,<br />

prepared meals and beautiful wives as he remains with his wealth. This is not<br />

fair! I swear by Allaah that I shall not enter <strong>the</strong> shelter <strong>of</strong> any <strong>of</strong> you before<br />

meeting with ~asulullaah@$%. Prepare my journey's provisions."<br />

<strong>The</strong>y prepared <strong>the</strong> provisions and brought his camel. He saddled <strong>the</strong> camel and<br />

left in search <strong>of</strong> ~asulullaah@@ until he finally caught up when ~asulullaah@@<br />

had set up camp in Tabook. Hadhrat Abu Khaythama 8Gw met up with<br />

Hadhrat Umayr bin Wahab Jamahi WW% on <strong>the</strong> road, who was also looking for<br />

~asulullaah@%. <strong>The</strong> two rode toge<strong>the</strong>r until <strong>the</strong>y came close to Tabook.<br />

Hadhrat Abu Khaythama BWj <strong>the</strong>n said to Hadhrat Umayr ?%%%, "Since I am<br />

at fault (for not joining <strong>the</strong> army earlier and have to meet Rasulullaah@?i% as<br />

soon as possible), why do you not ride behind me (for you have no hurry) so that<br />

1 may reach Rasulullaah~ (first)." Hadhrat Umayr 8,= complied and when<br />

Hadhrat Abu Khaythama 8,WiG drew close to ~asulullaah@@ in Tabook, <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Sahabah</strong> i4E!m said, "Here comes a rider on <strong>the</strong> road." ~asulullaah~ said,<br />

"Let it be Abu Khaythama." <strong>The</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> W,Wj <strong>the</strong>n said, "0 Rasulullaah~!<br />

By Allaah! It really is Abu Khaythama!"<br />

When Hadhrat Abu Khaythama @,lSW had made his camel sit down, he<br />

approached ~asulullaah@@. After he had greeted ~asulullaah@%%,<br />

Rasulullaah~ said to him, "Shame on you, 0 Abu Khaythama!" After Hadhrat<br />

Abu Khaythama 8,Gm had explained <strong>the</strong> incident to Rasulullaah~,<br />

(i) Isti'aab (~01. 1 Pg.404).<br />

(2) Ahmad, as quoted in NBidaaya wan Nihaaya (Vo1.8 Pg.59). Ibn Sa'd (Vo1.3 Pg.49) has also reported<br />

<strong>the</strong> narration.
