In Allaah's Book (<strong>the</strong> 'Lowhul Mahfoodh':, relatives are closer to each<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r (and <strong>the</strong>refore have a greater right <strong>of</strong> inheriting from each o<strong>the</strong>r)<br />

than <strong>the</strong> (o<strong>the</strong>r) Mu'mineen (who are not related) and <strong>the</strong> Muhaajireen,<br />

(<strong>the</strong>y wiff not receive any portion <strong>of</strong>your estate as inheritance) unless<br />

you wish to do a good turn to your (unrelated Mu'mineen or<br />

Muhaajireen) friends (in which case you may bequest a maximum <strong>of</strong><br />

one third<strong>of</strong>yourestate to <strong>the</strong>m). This (injunction) has been documented.<br />

in <strong>the</strong> Book (<strong>the</strong> "Lowhul Mahfoodh"). {Surah Ahzaab, verse 6)<br />

After this verse was revealed, all that <strong>the</strong> confkderates could have from <strong>the</strong><br />

inheritance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ansaar was what <strong>the</strong> Ansaar gave <strong>the</strong>m as goodwill to assist<br />

<strong>the</strong>m. By this interpretation, all <strong>the</strong> Ahadeeth have <strong>the</strong>ir explanation. ('I<br />

A large group <strong>of</strong> Taabi'een have narrated that when Rasulullaah %?% arrived in<br />

Madinah, he forged ties <strong>of</strong> bro<strong>the</strong>rhood between <strong>the</strong> Muhaajireen <strong>the</strong>mselves and<br />

between <strong>the</strong> ~uhaajireen and <strong>the</strong> Ansaar so that <strong>the</strong>y may care for each o<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y used to inherit from each o<strong>the</strong>r and numbered seventy individuals from<br />

amongst <strong>the</strong> Muhaajireen and <strong>the</strong> Ansaar. Some say that <strong>the</strong>y numbered a<br />

hundred. Never<strong>the</strong>less, <strong>the</strong>y stopped inheriting from each o<strong>the</strong>r on <strong>the</strong> basis <strong>of</strong><br />

this bro<strong>the</strong>rhood when Allaah revealed <strong>the</strong> verse:<br />

<strong>The</strong> Financial Assistance that <strong>the</strong> Ansaar<br />

gave to <strong>the</strong> Muhaajireen<br />

Sharing Dates and an Ansaari !i,!3G5w Refuses to be<br />

Paid Back<br />

Hadhrat Abu Hurayra narrates that <strong>the</strong> Ansaar once said to Rasulullaah<br />

&$?@, "Share out our date plantations between us and our (Muhaajireen)<br />

bro<strong>the</strong>rs." Rasulullaah @%% said, "No. (Instead <strong>of</strong> giving up ownership <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

land) Will you ra<strong>the</strong>r not absolve us (Muhaajireen) <strong>of</strong> working on <strong>the</strong> plantations<br />

and share <strong>the</strong> dates with us?" <strong>The</strong> Ansaar replied, "We hear and we obey."<br />

Hadhrat Abdur Rahmaan bin Zaid bin Aslam Wm narrates that Rasulullaah.<br />

said to <strong>the</strong> Ansaar, "Your (Muhaajireen) bro<strong>the</strong>rs have left behind <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

wealth and <strong>the</strong>ir families to come to you." <strong>The</strong> Ansaar said, "Distribute our land<br />

and plantations between us and <strong>the</strong>m." Rasulullaah @@, "Why not do something<br />

else?" "What else, 0 Rasulullaah w?" <strong>the</strong>y asked. Rasulullaah replied,<br />

"Since <strong>the</strong> Muhaajireen do not know how to work on <strong>the</strong> plantations, will you<br />

ra<strong>the</strong>r not do <strong>the</strong> work for <strong>the</strong>m and share <strong>the</strong> dates with <strong>the</strong>m?" "We shall<br />
