~adhrat Abu Safar ~,G= narrates that whenever Hadhrat Abu Bakr 9.W sent<br />

an army to Shaam, he would make <strong>the</strong>m pledge that <strong>the</strong>y would fight with spears<br />

(if need be) and remain steadfast if <strong>the</strong>y encountered a plague. ('I<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> @3Gw4 Pledge <strong>the</strong>ir Allegiance at <strong>the</strong><br />

Hand <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Umar %%im<br />

Hssadhrat Anas 3Gw narrates, "I arrived in Madinah after Hadhrat Abu Bakr<br />

SaW had passed away and Hadhrat Umar !33%&!& had assumed <strong>the</strong> post <strong>of</strong><br />

Khalifah. I said to Hadhrat Umar 3,!3&G, 'Raise your hand so that I may pledge at<br />

your hand what I pledged at <strong>the</strong> hand <strong>of</strong> your companion i.e. Abu Bakr 3G-3,<br />

that I will always listen and obey instruction to <strong>the</strong> best <strong>of</strong> my ability." (2)<br />

Hadhrat Umayr bin Atiyya Laythi SEW narrates that he went to Hadhrat Umar<br />

and said, "0 Ameerul Mu'mineen! Raise your hand - may Allaah always<br />

keep it high - so that I may pledge my allegiance at your hand in <strong>the</strong> manner<br />

shown by Allaah and His Rasool @&." Hadhrat Umar 4- smiled and raised<br />

his hand saying, "This pledge gives us some rights over you and gives you some<br />

rights over us."<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Ukaym S@ii% says, "With <strong>the</strong>se hands did I pledge to<br />

Hadhrat Umar 3.w that I would always listen to and obey him." (3)<br />

A Delegation from Hamraa pledge allegiance at <strong>the</strong><br />

Hand <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Uthmaan 53%&2j<br />

Saleem Abu Aamir !i3Gm narrates that a delegation from Hamraa came to<br />

Hadhrat Uthmaan 3Mi?& and pledged that <strong>the</strong>y would not ascribe anything as<br />

partner to Allaah, would establish salaah, pay zakaah, fast during Ramadhaan<br />

and forsake <strong>the</strong> festivities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

fire-worshippers. Hadhrat Uthmaan !&WI% onlfr<br />

accepted <strong>the</strong>ir pledge <strong>of</strong> allegiance after <strong>the</strong>y had agreed to all <strong>the</strong>se clauses. (4)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Muslims pledge <strong>the</strong>ir allegiance to <strong>the</strong><br />

Khilaafah <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Uthmaan BGij<br />

Hadhrat Miswar bin Makhrama narrates that <strong>the</strong> group (<strong>of</strong> six <strong>Sahabah</strong><br />

WWj) that Hadhrat Umar $k'JL%% had appointed (to select a Khalifah from<br />

amongst <strong>the</strong>mselves) had ga<strong>the</strong>red and were consulting with each o<strong>the</strong>r when<br />

Hadhrat Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf 9w said to <strong>the</strong>m, "I do not want to compete<br />

with you to become <strong>the</strong> Khalifah. However, if you agree, I shall select one <strong>of</strong> you<br />

on your behalf, <strong>The</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs granted him this privilege, after which <strong>the</strong> attention <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> people was focussed on him without anyone paying any attention to <strong>the</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs. Everyone <strong>the</strong>n turned to Hadhrat Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf 3Gw and<br />

presented <strong>the</strong>ir opinions to him. Eventually when <strong>the</strong> morning after <strong>the</strong> (final)<br />

night arrived, <strong>the</strong> people pledged <strong>the</strong>ir allegiance to Hadhrat Uthmaan ?3Iw.<br />
