sacrificed with (<strong>the</strong> slaughterer taking) <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> ano<strong>the</strong>r besides<br />

Allaah, those (animals) that were strangled to death (that suffocated to<br />

death or drowned), those that were beaten to death (died through<br />

injures), those that fell to <strong>the</strong>ir deaths, those kllled by collision (ei<strong>the</strong>r<br />

by impact or after being gored by ano<strong>the</strong>r anipal) and those eaten by<br />

wild beasts; except that which you slaughter '(<strong>The</strong>refore, if an animal<br />

suffers any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> above injuries but dies only after being proper&<br />

slaughtered <strong>the</strong> animals meat will be Halaaf). (Also forbidden for you<br />

are) What (that animal which) has been slaughtered at <strong>the</strong> altars (in <strong>the</strong><br />

name <strong>of</strong> gods besides iflaah) and distribution by arrows('). {Surah<br />

Maa'idah, verse 3)<br />

Hadhrat Abu Umaamah B,Cw says that as he invited <strong>the</strong>m towards Islaam, <strong>the</strong>y<br />

kept rejecting. He <strong>the</strong>n said to <strong>the</strong>m, "Shame on you! At least give me some water<br />

for I am extremely thirsty." <strong>The</strong>y responded by saying, "No! We shall not give you<br />

any water but would ra<strong>the</strong>r leave you to die thirsty." He <strong>the</strong>n tied his turban<br />

around his head and lay down on <strong>the</strong> scorching sand. He narrates, "When I fell<br />

asleep, I saw a person come to me with a crystal glass so beautiful as no one<br />

had ever seen. In <strong>the</strong> glass was a drink that no one has ever tasted a drink as<br />

delicious. He gave <strong>the</strong> glass to me and I drank from it. I woke up as soon as I<br />

had finished drinking and I swear by Allaah that after that I had never been<br />

thirsty nor even known what thirst is." ('1<br />

A shorter veision <strong>of</strong> this narration reported by Abu Ya'la states at <strong>the</strong> end that<br />

someone from Hadhrat ~ b Umaamah u 4-'s tribe said to <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs, "One <strong>of</strong><br />

your leaders has come to you and you could not even honour him!" <strong>The</strong> people<br />

<strong>the</strong>n brought some milk for him to drink, but he said, "I have no need for it<br />

now." He <strong>the</strong>n (narrated <strong>the</strong> dream to <strong>the</strong>m and) showed <strong>the</strong>m his (full)<br />

stomach. Every one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong>n accepted Islaarn. A narration <strong>of</strong> Bayhaqi in<br />

Dalaa'il states that Hadhrat Abu Umaamah @,- was sent to his tribe who<br />

were <strong>the</strong> Baahila tribe. (3)<br />

Rasulullaah Sends a Person to <strong>the</strong> Banu Sa'd<br />

tribe<br />

Hadhrat Ahnaf bin Qais narrates that he was once performing Tawaaf<br />

around <strong>the</strong> Kabah when a man from <strong>the</strong> Banu Layth tribe grabbed hold <strong>of</strong> his<br />

hand saying, "Shall I not give you glad tidings?" When Hadhrat Ahnaf bin Qais<br />

!E@&j asked to be informed, <strong>the</strong> person said, "Do you not remember <strong>the</strong> time<br />

when Rasulullaah @% sent me to invite your tribe to Islaam? whe'n I presented<br />

Islaam to <strong>the</strong>m and invited <strong>the</strong>m to accept, you said to me, "You are inviting us<br />

(1) <strong>The</strong> Mushrikeen Arabs used to predict future events using special arrows and also used such<br />

arrows in a form <strong>of</strong>gambling.<br />

(2) Tabraani as well as Ibn Asaakir as quoted in Kanzul Ummaal (Vol.7 Pg.94). Haythami (Vo1.9<br />

Pg.387) has commented on <strong>the</strong> Hadith.<br />
