Rasulullaah m, he ate it and <strong>the</strong>n said, "All p;aise be to Allaah. I have not eaten<br />

hot food for such a long time." ('1<br />

Hadhrat Sahl bin Sa'd B,B%3 says, "From <strong>the</strong> time Allaah instructed Rasulullaah<br />

w to announce his Nabuwaat until he demise, ~asuluilaah k$!$% did not even<br />

see fine white flour." When someone asked ~adhrht Sahl ~ ,GWj whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>re<br />

were sifts during <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah w, he replied, "From <strong>the</strong> time Allaah<br />

instructed Rasulullaah @% to announce his Nabuwaat until his demise,<br />

Rasulullaah $%@ did not even see a sift." Someone asked, "<strong>The</strong>n how were you<br />

able to eat unsifted barley?" He replied, "After grinding <strong>the</strong> barley, we used to<br />

blow it and whatever could fly away, would fly. <strong>The</strong> rest we used to make<br />

dough."(2)<br />

Hadhrat Aa'isha @!B@Zj has mentioned that nei<strong>the</strong>r a little nor a large amount <strong>of</strong><br />

barley bread 'would ever remain behind on <strong>the</strong> tablecloth <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah &%%.<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r narration states that <strong>the</strong>re was never even a small remainder <strong>of</strong> food on<br />

<strong>the</strong> tablecloth <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah @%$ when it was lifted. (3)<br />

Stones to <strong>the</strong>ir Stomachs to Suppress <strong>the</strong>ir Hunger<br />

Hadhrat Abu Talha BGW narrates that <strong>the</strong>y (<strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> @,W) once<br />

complained <strong>of</strong> hunger to Rasulullaah &%% and showed him <strong>the</strong>ir stomachs that<br />

had stones tied to <strong>the</strong>m. Rasulullaah <strong>the</strong>n showed <strong>the</strong>m his stomach to<br />

which two stones were tied. (4)<br />

A Sahabi by <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> Ibn Bujayr %,= states that when Rasulullaah<br />

suffered severe hunger one day, he tied a stone to his stomach and said, "Behold!<br />

Many are those who eat well and enjoy many bounties in this world, but will be<br />

hungry and naked on <strong>the</strong> Day <strong>of</strong> Qiyaamah. Behold! Many are those who appear<br />

to be generous to <strong>the</strong>mselves (by doing as <strong>the</strong>y desire) but are actually<br />

humiliating <strong>the</strong>mselves (because <strong>the</strong>ir desires lead <strong>the</strong>m to Jahannam). Behold!<br />

Many are those who appear to be humiliating <strong>the</strong>mselves (by suppressing <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

desires to abide by Allaah's~commands) but are actually being generous to<br />

<strong>the</strong>mselves (because <strong>the</strong>y are heading for Jannah)." (5)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Statement <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Aa'isha @I%@=<br />

Concerning Overeating<br />

Hadhrat Aa'isha wW once said, "<strong>The</strong> first calamity to befall this Ummah after<br />

<strong>the</strong> demise <strong>of</strong> its Nabi 4%?% is overeating because when a nation fills <strong>the</strong>ir bellies<br />

too much, <strong>the</strong>ir bodies become obese, <strong>the</strong>ir hearts become weak and <strong>the</strong>ir' carnal<br />

passions get out <strong>of</strong> control." (6)<br />
