partner to Allaah, that you will not steal and not fornicate. Whoever fulfils this<br />

pledge shall have his reward guaranteed by Allaah and whoever perpetrates any<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se sins and Allaah conceals <strong>the</strong>m (without being subjected to <strong>the</strong> Shari'ah<br />

penal code), <strong>the</strong>n his matter rests with Allaah Who may ei<strong>the</strong>r punish him or<br />

forgive him."<br />

I<br />

Hadhrat Ubaadah bin Saamit %%@!23 and O<strong>the</strong>r<br />

<strong>Sahabah</strong> i43@@33 pledged <strong>the</strong>ir allegiance to<br />

Rasulullaah for <strong>the</strong> First Time at Aqaba<br />

Hadhrat Ubaadah bin Saamit +B,W% narrates that <strong>the</strong>y were eleven persons<br />

when <strong>the</strong> pledge <strong>of</strong> allegiance was taken for <strong>the</strong> first time at Aqaba. He says<br />

that because fighting in Jihaad was not <strong>the</strong>n compulsory, <strong>the</strong>ir pledge was <strong>the</strong><br />

same that <strong>the</strong> women took. <strong>The</strong>y <strong>the</strong>refore pledged that <strong>the</strong>y will not ascribe any<br />

partner to Allaah, that <strong>the</strong>y will not steal, that <strong>the</strong>y will not fornicate, that <strong>the</strong>y<br />

will not come forth with slander which <strong>the</strong>y fabricate before <strong>the</strong>ir hands and legs<br />

(by claiming that <strong>the</strong>ir child is ano<strong>the</strong>r's), that <strong>the</strong>y will not kill <strong>the</strong>ir children and<br />

that <strong>the</strong>y will not disobey Rasulullaah in any good (deed that he commands<br />

<strong>the</strong>m to do). <strong>The</strong>y were assured that whoever fulfils this pledge shall have his<br />

reward guaranteed by Allaah and whoever perpetrates any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se sins, his<br />

matter rests with Allaah Who may ei<strong>the</strong>r punish him or forgive him. <strong>The</strong> same<br />

people returned (to Makkah) <strong>the</strong> following year to again pledge <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

allegiance.(2)<br />

Pledging Allegiance to Undertake <strong>the</strong> Hijrah<br />

Hadhrat Ya'la bin Munyah !B%&= pledges<br />

allegiance on Behalf <strong>of</strong> his fa<strong>the</strong>r<br />

Hadhrat Ya'la bin Munyah !3W%i narrates that he approached Rasulullaah i%%%<br />

<strong>the</strong> day after Makkah was conquered and said, "0 Rasulullaah @%$! Allow my<br />

fa<strong>the</strong>r to pledge that he will undertake <strong>the</strong> Hijrah." Rasulullaah said, "I shall<br />

ra<strong>the</strong>r allow him to pledge his allegiance to Jihaad because (<strong>the</strong> compulsory)<br />

Hijrah (to Madinah) has been terminated on <strong>the</strong> day Makkah was conquered."<br />

<strong>The</strong> narration <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Mujaashi SHi% in this regard has already passed at<br />

<strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> this chapter (3) in which he asked Rasulullaah @%$, "Accept our<br />

pledge <strong>of</strong> allegiance to Hijrah." Rasulullaah @@ said to <strong>the</strong>m, "Hijrah (to<br />

Madinah) has finished with those who have already made Hijrah (<strong>the</strong> compulsion<br />

to migrate to Madinah no longer exists)."<br />

<strong>The</strong> Hadith <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Jareer BWj has also passed(4) in which Rasulullaah<br />

Muslim".
