sought help from two <strong>of</strong> his slaves. When <strong>the</strong> fox tried to escape through <strong>the</strong><br />

hole, it was unable to do so because it had grown so fat and <strong>the</strong> owner <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

vineyard hit it until it died. This is how you people will leave our land." Rustam<br />

<strong>the</strong>n filled with rage and took an oath by <strong>the</strong> sun saying, "I shall kill you all<br />

tomorrow!"<br />

Hadhrat Mughiera bin Shu'ba h m calmly said, "You will soon find out."<br />

Rustam <strong>the</strong>n said to Hadhrat Mughiera W-, "I have issued <strong>the</strong> command that<br />

each <strong>of</strong> you should receive a set <strong>of</strong> clothing and that your commander should<br />

receive a thousand Dinaars toge<strong>the</strong>r with a set <strong>of</strong> clothing and a conveyance. You<br />

should <strong>the</strong>n leave us." Hadhrat Mughiera said, "You wish to do this after<br />

we have weakened your kingdom and diminished your respect? We have been a<br />

while in your kingdom and shall take <strong>the</strong> Jizya from you, which you shall pay by<br />

hand as subjects submitting to our authority. Regardless <strong>of</strong> what you think, you<br />

will soon become our slaves." when Hadhrat Mughiera BGw said this,<br />

Rustam flew into a towering rage. (')<br />

Hadhrat Sa'd %$Gw Sends a group <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong><br />

BWw to give Da'wah to <strong>the</strong> Persian Leader Before<br />

Engaging in Battle<br />

Hadhrat Abu Waa'il ~,!5W narrates, "Hadhrat Sa'd $jWB.&i marched with <strong>the</strong><br />

Muslim army until <strong>the</strong>y set up camp at a place called Qaadisiyya. I cannot tell.<br />

precisely but we numbered no more than seven or eight thousand while <strong>the</strong><br />

Mushrikeen numbered thirty thousand." This is <strong>the</strong> figure according to this<br />

narration. However, according to a narration <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat say+'), <strong>the</strong> Kuffaar army<br />

numbered eighty thousand. Ano<strong>the</strong>r narration places <strong>the</strong> figure <strong>of</strong> Rustam's<br />

army at a hundred and twenty thousand with ano<strong>the</strong>r eighty thousand<br />

reinforcements. In addition to this, Rustam had thirty three elephants, led by <strong>the</strong><br />

largest which was a white elephant belonging to Saaboor. All <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r elephants<br />

obeyed this elephant. Like this narration, <strong>the</strong>re are o<strong>the</strong>rs citing various figures.<br />

(Because <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir might) <strong>The</strong> Persians told <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> We-, You have no<br />

strength, no power and no weapons to resist us. You should ra<strong>the</strong>r go back<br />

home."<br />

Undeterred, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> @,- reiterated that <strong>the</strong>y were not going back. <strong>The</strong><br />

Persians also laughed at <strong>the</strong> arrows <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> W,133% and would say,<br />

"Dook! Dook!" By this <strong>the</strong>y compared <strong>the</strong> arrows to spindles (because "dook" is a<br />

Persian word referring to knitting needles). However, when <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> W,Gij<br />

refused to return, <strong>the</strong> Persians said, "Send to us one <strong>of</strong> your intellectuals to<br />

explaintouswhatbringsyouhere." Hadhrat Mughiera binShuba W i volunteered for<br />

<strong>the</strong> task. When he went, he sat on Rustam's throne, causing <strong>the</strong> courtiers to<br />
