<strong>The</strong> Outstanding Perseverance <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah k%%%<br />

when Inviting Hakam bin Kaysaan to Islaam<br />

Hadhrat Miqdaad bin Amr narrates that when he took Hakam bin<br />

Kaysaan prisoner (during one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> battles), his commander wanted Hakam<br />

executed. However, he (Hadhrat Miqdaad Ls!3!3W6) managed to persuade his<br />

commander not to execute Hakam but to ra<strong>the</strong>r take him to Rasulullaah @@.<br />

When <strong>the</strong>y brought him to Rasulullaah @&, <strong>the</strong> noble Rasulullaah @$% started<br />

inviting him to accept Islaam and spent a long time speaking to him.<br />

After some time, Hadhrat Umar $i$3@6 said, "0 Rasulullaah m! For what<br />

reason are you talking to him so much? By Allaah! He shall never accept Islaam!<br />

Allow me to execute him so that he may reach his destination in Jahannam!"<br />

However, Rasulullaah paid no attention to Hadhrat Umar B,= (and<br />

continued speaking) until Hakam accepted Islaam.<br />

Hadhrat Umar %Bw says, "When I saw Hakam accept Islaam, I was surrounded<br />

by thoughts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> past and future. I chided myself for addressing Rasulullaah<br />

@%% concerning a matter about which he had more knowledge than me. I <strong>the</strong>n<br />

told myself that I had done so only for <strong>the</strong> welfare <strong>of</strong> Allaah and His Rasool<br />

@@." Hadhrat Umar ?&lw also said, "Hakam became a Muslim and by Allaah,<br />

he was an excellent Muslim who fought for <strong>the</strong> pleasure <strong>of</strong> Allaah until he was<br />

martyred at Bir Ma'oona. Rasulullaah @$% was pleased with him and he has<br />

entered <strong>the</strong> gardens <strong>of</strong> Jannah."<br />

In a narration <strong>of</strong> Zuhri, Hakam asked Rasulullaah @@, "What is Islaam?"<br />

Rasulullaah k%% replied, "That you worship Allaah Alone Who has no partner<br />

and that you testify that Muhammad is Allaah's servant and Rasul." Hakam <strong>the</strong>n<br />

said, "I accept Islaam." Rasulullaah <strong>the</strong>n turned to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> P43U4Ej and<br />

said, "Had I listened to you just now and killed him, he would have entered <strong>the</strong><br />

fire <strong>of</strong> Jahannam." (2)<br />

Wahshi bin Harb Accepts Islaam<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas !&E@% narrates that Rasulullaah @@ sent a<br />

messenger with <strong>the</strong> invitation <strong>of</strong> lslaam to Wahshi bin Harb who was responsible<br />

for killing Hadhrat Hamza $3w (<strong>the</strong> uncle <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah @). <strong>The</strong> messenger<br />

returned with a message from Wahshi stating, "0 Muhammad! How can you call<br />

me to Islaam when you say that a murderer, a Mushrikeen and an adylmer<br />

shall meet with a grave punishment and this punishment will be multiplied for<br />

<strong>the</strong>m on <strong>the</strong> Day <strong>of</strong> Qiyaamah where <strong>the</strong>y shall remain disgraced in it forever(3). I<br />

have committed all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se crimes, so is <strong>the</strong>re any scope for me?"<br />
