Chapter Six<br />

<strong>The</strong> Chapter Concerning Jihaad<br />

(Striving in <strong>the</strong> Path <strong>of</strong> Allaah)<br />

in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong> Allaah and how <strong>the</strong>y went out to give Da'wah towards Allaah and<br />

towards His Rasool @# regardless <strong>of</strong> whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>ir circumstances were<br />

favourable or unfavourable, or whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>y had a choice or not. <strong>The</strong> chapter<br />

also makes clear how <strong>the</strong>y prepared for this during times <strong>of</strong> difficulty and ease,<br />

Rasulullaah Encourages Striving in<br />

<strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong> Allaah and Spending One's<br />

Wealth for this Cause<br />

Rasulullaah leaves for <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Badr after<br />

Consulting with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> i4!5@w<br />

Hadhrat Abu Ayyoob Ansaari $H@@& narrates that <strong>the</strong>y were all in Madinah when<br />

Rasulullaah @?@ said, "I have been informed that <strong>the</strong> trade caravan <strong>of</strong> Abu<br />

Sufyaan is arriving (from Shaam with plenty <strong>of</strong> wealth). Do you want to march to<br />

<strong>the</strong> caravan so that Allaah should perhaps give y/ou plenty <strong>of</strong> booty?" When <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Sahabah</strong> iBlW% agreed, Rasulullaah @@ marched out <strong>of</strong> Madinah with <strong>the</strong>m.<br />

After marching a day or two, Rasulullaah @.%%said to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> i@WW, "<strong>The</strong><br />

Quraysh have received intelligence about us (and have prepared an army to fight<br />

US), SO what do you say (about fighting <strong>the</strong>m)?" <strong>The</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> i43EW said, "By<br />

Allaah! We do not have <strong>the</strong> strength to fight <strong>the</strong>m because we intended taking on<br />

only <strong>the</strong> caravan." Rasulullaah @%&! repeated, 'What do you say about fighting<br />

<strong>the</strong>m?" When <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> i@@&!& gave <strong>the</strong> same response, Hadhrat Miqdaad bin<br />

Aswad !&WM stood up and said, "In that case, 0 Rasulullaah (if we have to<br />

fight <strong>the</strong>m), we shall not say to you what <strong>the</strong> people <strong>of</strong> Moosa @&$ said to him<br />

when <strong>the</strong>y said:<br />

' . .. You and your Rabb both go ahead and fight. We shall remain sitting<br />

here."' {Surah Maa'idah, verse 24)<br />
