Disables his Horse and<br />

Recites Some Couplets as he Fights<br />

Hadhrat Abbaad bin Abdullaah bin Zubayr @,Wj narrates that his foster fa<strong>the</strong>r<br />

from <strong>the</strong> Banu Murrah who participated in <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Mu'ta said, "By Allaah! It<br />

is as if I can still see Ja'far dismounting his red horse and <strong>the</strong>n<br />

hamstringing it. He <strong>the</strong>n fought <strong>the</strong> enemy until he was martyred. As he fought,<br />

he was reciting <strong>the</strong> following couplets (which meant):<br />

0 how delightful is Jannah and drawing close to it<br />

With its pure and cool waters<br />

<strong>The</strong>irpunishment has drawn close to <strong>the</strong> Romans<br />

Who are non-believers without any mutual relations<br />

When I meet <strong>the</strong>m on <strong>the</strong> battlefi'eld, I shall have to strike at <strong>the</strong>m with my<br />

sword:"(l)<br />

During <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Yamaamah<br />

Hadhrat Zaid bin Khattaab BFwj and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

<strong>Sahabah</strong> Encourage <strong>the</strong> Muslims to be<br />

Steadfast and to Seek Martyrdom<br />

Hadhrat Abdur Rahmaan ?&W&j who was <strong>the</strong> son <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Zaid bin Khattaab<br />

?%UW narrates that (his fa<strong>the</strong>r) Hadhrat Zaid bin Khattaab @G= carried <strong>the</strong><br />

flag <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Muslims during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Yamaamah. <strong>The</strong> Muslims were on <strong>the</strong><br />

verge <strong>of</strong> being defeated'when (<strong>the</strong>ir enemy) <strong>the</strong> Haneefa tribe(2) overwhelmed <strong>the</strong><br />

Muslim infantry. Hadhrat Zaid bin Khattaab <strong>the</strong>n said to <strong>the</strong> Muslims, "Do<br />

not return to <strong>the</strong> camp for <strong>the</strong> infantry has been defeated." Shouting at <strong>the</strong> top <strong>of</strong><br />

his voice, he <strong>the</strong>n said, "0 Allaah! I beg Your pardon on behalf <strong>of</strong> my companions<br />

who have fled and I exonerate myself from <strong>the</strong> evil that Musaylama and<br />

Muhaklcam bin Tufayl (<strong>the</strong> commander <strong>of</strong> Musaylama's army) have casued." He<br />

<strong>the</strong>n firmly grabbed hold <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> flag and advanced with it in <strong>the</strong> midst <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

enemy, where he fought courageously with his sword until he was martyred. May<br />

Allaah shower His mercies on him.<br />

When <strong>the</strong> flag fell from his hand, it was taken up by Hadhrat Saalim <strong>the</strong> freed<br />

slave <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Abu Hudhayfa !&lam. <strong>The</strong> Muslims said to him, "We fear that<br />

<strong>the</strong> enemy would attack us from your side." He replied, "I would be a terrible<br />

bearer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur'aan if <strong>the</strong> enemy attacks from my side (I shall fight any attacks<br />

<strong>the</strong>y launch form my side)." Hadhrat Zaid bin Khattaab WWj was martyred in<br />
