Admonishing those Who Beg from people so<br />

that <strong>the</strong>y may Proceed in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong> Allaah<br />

Hadhrat Umar 3; Admonishes a Youngster<br />

Who Begged from people so that he Could Proceed<br />

in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong> Allaah<br />

Hadhrat Naafi narrates that a robust and healthy youngster once entered <strong>the</strong><br />

Masjid. He held a large arrow in his hand and announced, "Who will assist me to<br />

proceed in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong> Allaah?" Hadhrat Umar 3,Gm sent for him and when he<br />

was brought, Hadhrat Umar %GW announced, "Who will hire this man from me<br />

to work his fields?" One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ansaar said, "I shall hire him, 0 Ameerul<br />

Mu'mineen. What do you ask as his monthly salary?" When <strong>the</strong> Ansaari specified<br />

an amount, Hadhrat Umar %.GW handed <strong>the</strong> youngster over to him. <strong>The</strong><br />

youngster had worked in <strong>the</strong> fields for several months when Hadhrat Umar<br />

~ B w asked <strong>the</strong> Ansaari, "How is our labourer?" "He is a fine man, 0 Ameerul<br />

Mu'mineen," replied <strong>the</strong> Ansaari. Hadhrat Umar %%W <strong>the</strong>n instructed <strong>the</strong><br />

Ansaari to bring <strong>the</strong> youngster along toge<strong>the</strong>r with his salaries that he had<br />

collected. <strong>The</strong> Ansaari <strong>the</strong>n brought <strong>the</strong> youngster toge<strong>the</strong>r with a bag <strong>of</strong><br />

Dirhams. Hadhrat Umar 3,GW <strong>the</strong>n said (to <strong>the</strong> youngster), "Take this. If you<br />

wish, you may proceed now in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong> Allaah and if you wish, you may sit<br />

at home." ('I<br />

Taking Loans to Proceed in Jihaad<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> @,GW Seek Loans from Rasulullaah<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Mas'ood @.W&G narrates that someone asked, "Have you<br />

heard Rasulullaah @'@ say anything about horses?" "Yes," he replied, "I have<br />

heard Rasulullaah @@ say, 'Virtue has been secured to <strong>the</strong> forelocks <strong>of</strong> horses<br />

until <strong>the</strong> Day <strong>of</strong> Qiyaamah. Buy with trust in Allaah and take loans with trust<br />

in Allaah.' When someone asked Rasulullaah how could a person buy with<br />

trust in Allaah and take loans with trust in Allaah, Rasulullaah replied, 'Tell<br />

(<strong>the</strong> borrower) to give you <strong>the</strong> loan until (you are able to pay him back when)<br />

<strong>the</strong> spoils <strong>of</strong> war are distributed and tell (<strong>the</strong> seller) to sell to you now until<br />

(you are able to pay him when) Allaah grants victory in battle (and you are able<br />

to pay from <strong>the</strong> share you receive <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> booty). You will always remain in good<br />

stead as long as your Jihaad remains fresh (as long as you fight with<br />

enthusiasm). Towards <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> time <strong>the</strong>re shall be people who will have doubts<br />

about Jihaad. You should however continue waging Jihaad during <strong>the</strong>ir time and<br />

continue fighting because Jihaad will be fresh during those times as well (Allaah's<br />

assistance and booty will be found <strong>the</strong>n as well)."' (2)<br />
