said, 'This opportunity is better than <strong>the</strong> one (which you lost) during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong><br />

~unayn?' I jumped up and drew closer to him. He said, '<strong>The</strong> time has come for<br />

you to think about your religion.' When 1 told him that I had been thinking about<br />

this, he said, "0 Allaah! Increase his steadfastness."'<br />

"By <strong>the</strong> Being Who sent Rasulullaah @% with <strong>the</strong> truth! (<strong>The</strong> effect <strong>of</strong> this du'aa<br />

was that) My heart became a rock <strong>of</strong> steadfastness in Deen and in assisting <strong>the</strong><br />

cause <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> true Deen. I had just returned to my tent when a man from <strong>the</strong> Banu<br />

Duwal came to me and said, '0 Abu Haarith! Rasulullaah has ordered that a<br />

hundred camels be given to you. Would you please give me some because I have<br />

debts.' 1 decided not to take <strong>the</strong> camels thinking to myself that it was being given<br />

to me only to win me over and I would not want to be bribed to accept Islaam.<br />

However, I <strong>the</strong>n thought to myself that I had not wanted it nor asked for it. So<br />

I accepted <strong>the</strong> camels and gave ten to <strong>the</strong> man from <strong>the</strong> Banu Duwal tribe." ('I<br />

<strong>The</strong> Banu Thaqeef tribe <strong>of</strong> Taa'if Accept Islaam<br />

Rasulullaah @@ Leaves <strong>the</strong> Thaqeef Tribe and<br />

Hadhrat Urwa bin Mas'ood ~ , GAccepts W Islaam<br />

Ibn Is'haaq narrates that when Rasulullaah @i% left <strong>the</strong> Thaqeef tribe, Hadhrat<br />

Urwa bin Mas'ood ~ B w (who belonged to <strong>the</strong> Thaqeef) followed him and<br />

caught up with him just before he reached Madinah. He accepted lslaam and<br />

requested permission to take <strong>the</strong> message <strong>of</strong> Islaam to his people. Rasulullaah<br />

@% said to him; "<strong>The</strong>y would kill you." (Rasulullaah &'@ said this because) He<br />

knew from his experience with <strong>the</strong>m that <strong>the</strong>y were extremely proud and<br />

obstinate. However, Hadhrat Urwa bin Mas'ood %%&!.2j said to Rasulullaah w,<br />

"I am more beloved to <strong>the</strong>m than <strong>the</strong>ir virgins." <strong>The</strong> fact was that he was greatly<br />

loved and obeyed by <strong>the</strong> Thaqeef.<br />

Hadhrat Urwa bin Mas'ood %GW Invites his<br />

people to Islaam and is Martyred<br />

Hadhrat Urwa bin Mas'ood %Bw <strong>the</strong>n left to invite his people to Islaam<br />

expecting that <strong>the</strong>y would not oppose him because <strong>of</strong> his high status among<br />

<strong>the</strong>m. However, when he invited <strong>the</strong>m to Islaam standing on <strong>the</strong> balcony <strong>of</strong> his<br />

house and made his Deen clear to <strong>the</strong>m, <strong>the</strong>y fired arrows at him from every<br />

angle. He was martyred when one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> arrows struck him. He was asked, 'What<br />

have you to say about your blood?" He replied, "Allaah has blessed me with great<br />

honour and brought to me <strong>the</strong> rank <strong>of</strong> martyrdom. I have also attained <strong>the</strong> rank<br />

<strong>of</strong> those martyrs who were killed while fighting with Rasulullaah before<br />

leaving this world. Bury me with <strong>the</strong>m." He was <strong>the</strong>refore buried with those<br />

<strong>Sahabah</strong> @Gw. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> @GW believed that it was concerning him that<br />

Rasulullaah said, "His example amongst his people is like that <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
