Hadhrat Anas ?&G!@j says that when <strong>the</strong> Muslim army suffered defeat initially<br />

during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Yamaamah, hesawHadhratThaabitbin Qais BG= applying<br />

perfume (in preparation for entering <strong>the</strong> battlefield). Hadhrat Anas BGw said<br />

to him, "0 uncle! Do you not see what is happening (<strong>the</strong> Muslim are busy<br />

retreating)?" He replied, "This is not how we used to fight during <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong><br />

RasuIullaah m! Terrible is <strong>the</strong> habit that you people have made <strong>the</strong> enemy<br />

accustomed to (by being repeatedly defeated)! 0 Allaah! I absolve myself from<br />

what <strong>the</strong>se people (<strong>the</strong> Muslims) have done (by fleeing) and from what those<br />

people (<strong>the</strong> enemy) have done." He <strong>the</strong>n fought until he was killed. (2)<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r narration states that when <strong>the</strong> Muslims were being defeated during <strong>the</strong><br />

Battle <strong>of</strong> Yamaamah, Hadhrat Thaabit @,Wj said, "Shame on those people (<strong>the</strong><br />

enemy) and whatever <strong>the</strong>y worship and shame on <strong>the</strong>se people (<strong>the</strong> Muslim) for<br />

what <strong>the</strong>y have done!" He <strong>the</strong>n killed a man standing on a depression <strong>of</strong> a wall<br />

(<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> orchard <strong>the</strong>y were using as a fortress). Hadhrat Thaabit Bw was <strong>the</strong>n<br />

martyred. (3)<br />

During <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Yarmook<br />

Hadhrat Ikrama bin Abu Jahal ~,EWj is Martyred<br />

Toge<strong>the</strong>r with Four Hundred Muslims<br />

Hadhrat Thaabit Bunaani narrates that during a certain battle (<strong>the</strong><br />

Battle <strong>of</strong> Yarmook), Hadhrat Ikrama bin Abu Jahal ~,Gw dismounted from his<br />

animal and was walking when Hadhrat Khaalid bin Waleed BCWj said to him,<br />

"Do not do that for your death will be a hard blow to <strong>the</strong> Muslims." Hadhrat<br />

Ikrama bin Abu Jahal WW!% replied, "Leave me alone, 0 Khaalid. You were one<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> early ones with Rasulullaah @% while my fa<strong>the</strong>r and I were amongst his<br />

staunchest opponents." He <strong>the</strong>n continued on foot until he was martyred. (4)<br />

Hadhrat Abu Uthmaan Ghassaani narrates from his fa<strong>the</strong>r that during <strong>the</strong> Battle<br />

<strong>of</strong> Yarmook, Hadhrat Ikrama bin Abu Jahal @,Wj said, "I fought several battles<br />

against Rasulullaah &%$. Should I now flee from you people today.. 7'" He <strong>the</strong>n<br />

announced, "Who will pledge to fight to <strong>the</strong>ir deaths?" His uncle Hadhrat Haarith<br />

bin Hishaam %f&S@%, Hadhrat Diraar bin Azwar iFiK%Sj and four hundred o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

prominent Muslims and horsemen took <strong>the</strong> pledge at his hand. <strong>The</strong>y <strong>the</strong>n fought<br />

in front <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Khaalid ?&lWWs tent until <strong>the</strong>ir wouflds incapacitated all <strong>of</strong><br />

similar narration from Hadhrat Anas !&@@&.<br />
