Hadhrat Arnr bin Ma'dikarib B,Gw attacked <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen all by himself and<br />

fought with his sword until <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r Muslims could join him. When <strong>the</strong> Muslims<br />

saw that <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen had surrounded Hadhrat Amr BWj who was still<br />

wielding his sword, <strong>the</strong>y drove <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen away from him.<br />

Tabraani narrated from Muhammad bin Sallaam Jumhi s,%= that Hadhrat<br />

"mar >., ,.,. , Skw wrote to Hadhrat Sa'd BGWj saying, "I shall reinforce yo'u with two<br />

thousand men. <strong>The</strong>y are Hadhrat Amr bin Ma'dikarib !&GW5 and Hadhrat<br />

Tulayha bin Khuwaylid @,ISm."<br />

Hadhrat Abu Saalih bin Wajeeh %GGj says, "<strong>The</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Nahaawind took place<br />

during <strong>the</strong> year 21 A.H. and <strong>the</strong> Muslims were defeated when Hadhrat Nu'maan<br />

bin Muqarrin 3GW3 was martyred. Hadhrat Amr bin Ma'dikarib S G ? <strong>the</strong>n<br />

resumed <strong>the</strong> fight on that day until he had transformed <strong>the</strong> defeat into victory.<br />

However, an injury incapacitated him and he passed away in <strong>the</strong> village <strong>of</strong><br />

Rowdha."<br />

<strong>The</strong> Bravery <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Abdullaah bin<br />

Zubayr !&,G$5%><br />

His Fight Against Hajjaaj and Subsequent<br />

Martyrdom<br />

Hadhrat Urwa bin Zubayr aG$&j reports that after Hadhrat Mu'aawiya ~,L%!&<br />

passed away, it became very difficult for Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Zubayr BGWj to<br />

be subservient to Hadhrat Mu'aawiya BG&B3'~ son Yazeed. When Hadhrat<br />

Abdullaah bin Zubayr %G%j once insulted Yazeed in public, Yazeed vowed that<br />

if Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Zubayr B,GW was not brought before him wearing a<br />

yoke around his neck, he would send an army to get him. <strong>The</strong> people said to<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Zubayr wWj, "Should we not make for you a yoke out<br />

<strong>of</strong> silver which you could wear under your clothing so that his vow could be<br />

fulfilled? It is best that you make peace with him." Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Zubayr<br />

SWj exclaimed, "May Allaah never fulfil his vow!" He <strong>the</strong>n recited <strong>the</strong> following<br />

couplet (which meant):<br />

"I shall never s<strong>of</strong>ten to his demands that oppose <strong>the</strong> truth until rock is s<strong>of</strong>tened<br />

for <strong>the</strong> molars to chew"<br />

He <strong>the</strong>n declared, "By Allaah! <strong>The</strong> strike <strong>of</strong> a sword in honour is better than <strong>the</strong><br />

lash <strong>of</strong> a whip in disgrace." <strong>The</strong>reafter, he started calling for support and<br />

proclaimed his opposition to Yazeed bin Mu'aawiya. Yazeed <strong>the</strong>n dispatched an<br />

army from Shaam under <strong>the</strong> command <strong>of</strong> Muslim bin Uqba Murri with explicit<br />

instructions to fight <strong>the</strong> people <strong>of</strong> Madinah and to <strong>the</strong>n march to Makkah. When<br />

Muslim entered Madinah, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> '&=j who were left <strong>the</strong>re were already<br />

gone. Muslim humiliated <strong>the</strong> people <strong>of</strong> Madinah and went on a killing spree. He<br />

<strong>the</strong>n left Madinah and was on <strong>the</strong> way (to Makkah) when he died. However, he<br />

had already appointed Husayn bin Numayr Kindi as his successor and said to<br />
