Rasulullaah @$% turned to Hadhrat Abu Bakr 4=<br />

and said, "0 Abu Bakr!<br />

Hadhrat Jibra'eel @!% is here. He conveys to you <strong>the</strong> greetings from Allaah Who<br />

asks, 'Are you pleased with Me in this state <strong>of</strong> povkty or unpleased?"' Hadhrat<br />

Abu Bakr @GWj started to cry and said, "Can I ever be displeased with my Rabb?<br />

I am pleased with my Rabb!" I am pleased with my Rabb!" ('I<br />

Hadhrat Ali SEbsj and Hadhrat Faatima m.j<br />

Suffer from a Lack <strong>of</strong> Clothing<br />

Hadhrat Ali @GWj narrates that when he married- Hadhrat Faatima &3l3W6, all<br />

<strong>the</strong>y had as a bedding was a sheepskin that <strong>the</strong>y slept on by night and on which<br />

<strong>the</strong>y served food to <strong>the</strong>ir camel during <strong>the</strong> day. <strong>The</strong>y also had no servant. (2)<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> have only Coarse Woollen<br />

clothing to wear and Have to Constantly eat Only<br />

Dates and Water<br />

~adhrat Abu Burda says that his fa<strong>the</strong>r (Hadhrat Abu Moosa Ash'ari W3.W) once<br />

said to him, "If only you had to see us during <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah @& when<br />

we would be caught in <strong>the</strong> rain! You would have thought that we smelt just like<br />

sheep (because our clo<strong>the</strong>s were made from sheepskin)." (3) Ano<strong>the</strong>r narration(4)<br />

from Hadhrat Abu Burda states that his fa<strong>the</strong>r Hadhrat Abu Moosa Ash'ari %U&?G<br />

said to him, "Dear son! If you had to see us during <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah<br />

when we were caught in <strong>the</strong> rain, you would have found us smelling like sheep<br />

because <strong>of</strong>eour woollen clothing. Yet ano<strong>the</strong>r narration adds that Hadhrat Abu<br />

Moosa Ash'ari said, "Our clo<strong>the</strong>s were made <strong>of</strong> sheepskin while our food<br />

was <strong>the</strong> two black things, dates and water." (5)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Men <strong>of</strong> Suffa Suffer from a Lack <strong>of</strong> Clothing<br />

Hadhrat Abu Hurayra S4- says, "I saw seventy men <strong>of</strong> Suffa, none <strong>of</strong> whom<br />

possessed a large shawl. <strong>The</strong>y ei<strong>the</strong>r wore a lower garment only or a small sheet<br />

that <strong>the</strong>y tied around <strong>the</strong>ir necks. Whereas <strong>the</strong> garment <strong>of</strong> some reached halfway<br />

past <strong>the</strong>ir calves, <strong>the</strong>re were those whose garments just reached <strong>the</strong>ir ankles.<br />

However, <strong>the</strong>y would hold <strong>the</strong> garment toge<strong>the</strong>r because <strong>the</strong>y did not like <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

private parts to be exposed."<br />

Hadhrat Waathila bin.Asqa w% says, "I was one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> men <strong>of</strong> Suffa. None <strong>of</strong><br />

Hadhrat Abu Hurayra ?&lW. 1bn Ka<strong>the</strong>er has commented on <strong>the</strong> chain <strong>of</strong> narrators as mentioned<br />

in Muntakhab Kanzul Ummaal Wo1.4 Pg.353).<br />
