Rasulullaah<br />

Invites Dhi Jowshin Dhababi<br />

W&j' to Islaam<br />

~adhrat Dhi Jowshin Dhababi narrates, "I came to Rasulullaah rn after<br />

<strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Badr and brought with him <strong>the</strong> foal <strong>of</strong> my horse Qar'haa. I said to<br />

~asulullaah @%$, '0 Muhammad! I have brought for me <strong>the</strong> foal <strong>of</strong> my horse<br />

Qar'haa so that you may use it for yourself.' Rasulullaah @@ replied, 'I have no<br />

need for it. However, if you wish to exchange it for a suit <strong>of</strong> armour from <strong>the</strong><br />

~attle <strong>of</strong> Badr, you could have any suit you choose.' I replied, 'I am not prepared<br />

to exchange this pedigreed horse today.' Rasulullaah @% said, 'I have no need<br />

for it. 0 Dhi Jowshin! Will you not accept Islaam to become among <strong>the</strong> first to<br />

accept Islaam?' When I replied in <strong>the</strong> negative, Rasulullaah @@ asked, 'Why not?'<br />

I said, 'Because I see that your people are upset with you.' He asked me, 'How did<br />

you receive <strong>the</strong> news <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> defeat (<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen) at Badr?"'<br />

"I said, 'All <strong>the</strong> news has reached me.' He said, 'We will have to give you guidance<br />

(to Islaam).' 'On condition that you take control <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kabah and start living<br />

<strong>the</strong>re,' I responded. Rasulullaah @%$ said, 'If you are alive <strong>the</strong>n, you shall<br />

certainly see it."'<br />

Rasulullaah @%$ <strong>the</strong>n said to Hadhrat Bilaal !&R%!G5, "0 Bilaal! Take <strong>the</strong> man's<br />

satchel and fill it with Ajwa dates as a provision for his journey." As Hadhrat Dhi<br />

Jowshin %,W% was leaving, Rasulullaah @% said to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> W,-, "He<br />

is among <strong>the</strong> finest horsemen <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Banu Aamir tribe."<br />

Hadhrat Dhi Jowshin SGw continues <strong>the</strong> story when he said, "By Allaah! I was<br />

with my family in a place called Ghowr when a rider arrived. I asked him, 'What<br />

have people been doing?' He replied, 'By Allaah! Muhammad has taken control <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Kabah and is living <strong>the</strong>re.' When I heard this, I said to myself, 'If only my<br />

mo<strong>the</strong>r had lost me as a child. If only I had accepted Islaam that day. If I had<br />

even asked Rasulullaah for <strong>the</strong> district <strong>of</strong> ~eeia <strong>the</strong>n, he would have<br />

allotted it to me."'<br />

According to ano<strong>the</strong>r narration, Rasulullaah asked him, "What prevents you<br />

from ~slaam?" He replied, "I see that your people belie you, have exiled you (from<br />

Makkah) and are now at war with you. I shall now watch developments. If you<br />

get <strong>the</strong> upper hand over your people, I shall accept Imaan and follow you.<br />

However, if <strong>the</strong>y get <strong>the</strong> upper hand over you, I shall not be following you." (I)<br />

Rasulullaah @@ Invites Hadhrat Basheer bin<br />

Khasaasiyyah to Islaam<br />

Hadhrat Basheer bin Khasaasiyah 3,Wj narrates that Rasulullaah @@ invited<br />

him to accept Islaam on one occasion. (After he accepted Islaam,) Rasulullaah<br />

k%% asked him, "What is your name?" When he replied that his name was<br />

end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Hadith and Bukhari has also narrated it briefly as quoted in A1 Bidaaya wan Nihaaya<br />

(Vol. 5 Pg. 65).<br />

(1) Tabraani. Haythami (Vol. 6 Pg. 162) has commented on <strong>the</strong> Hadith. Abu Dawood has also narrated<br />

a part <strong>of</strong> it.
