One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> narrators by <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> Abdur Rahmaan says that he <strong>the</strong>n asked<br />

Hadhrat Mu'aadh 3SWj, "But <strong>the</strong> reward <strong>of</strong> spending (in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong> Allaah) is<br />

multiplied seven hundred times." Hadhrat Mu'aadh ~,@&3 commented, "Your<br />

understanding is wanting. That (reward multiplied seven hundred times) is for<br />

people who spend (on o<strong>the</strong>rs in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong> Allaah) while <strong>the</strong>y are <strong>the</strong>mselves<br />

with <strong>the</strong>ir families (at home) and not out on an expedition. However, when <strong>the</strong>y<br />

march out <strong>the</strong>mselves and <strong>the</strong>n spend, Allaah keeps aside for <strong>the</strong>m such things<br />

from <strong>the</strong> treasures <strong>of</strong> His mercy that far transcends <strong>the</strong> knowledge <strong>of</strong> man and<br />

his ability to describe it. Such people are <strong>the</strong> party <strong>of</strong> Allaah and <strong>the</strong> party <strong>of</strong><br />

Allaah are always victorious."<br />

Hadhrat Ali s,@l$$j, Hadhrat Abu Dardaa @,%&Zit Hadhrat Abu Hurayra %,%&j,<br />

Hadhrat Abu Umaama !BGw, Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Amr bin A1 Aas %GWii,<br />

Hadhrat Jaabir %lW+ and Hadhrat Imraan bin Husayn %Gw all narrate that<br />

Rasulullaah stated, "<strong>The</strong> person who spends funds in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong> Allaah<br />

while he remains at home shall be rewarded with seven hundred Dirhams for<br />

every Dirham (that he spends). On <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r hand, <strong>the</strong> person who himself<br />

marches out in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong> Allaah and <strong>the</strong>n spends for Allaah's pleasure shall<br />

be rewarded with seven hundred thousand Dirhams for every Dirham (that he<br />

spends)." Rasulullaah &@! <strong>the</strong>n recited <strong>the</strong> following verse:<br />

And Allaah multiplies (rewards) for whoever He wills. {Surah Baqara, verse 2611(~)<br />

In <strong>the</strong> chapter entitled "Rasulullaah @@ Encourages Striving in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong><br />

Allaah and Spending One's Wealth for this Cause", it has already been narrated<br />

how much was spent by <strong>Sahabah</strong> such as Hadhrat Abu Bakr BGWj,<br />

Hadhrat Umar 3GWj, Hadhrat Uthmaan %lUi%, Hadhrat Talha %i#liW, Hadhrat<br />

Abdur Rahmaan bin Auf B.W$5, Hadhrat Abbaas Hadhrat Sa'd bin<br />

Ubaadah 3Gw, Hadhrat Muhammad bin Maslama %,Wj and Hadhrat Aasim<br />

bin Adi<br />

More details will be mentioned in a forthcoming chapter<br />

specifically dealing with <strong>the</strong> spending <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> @GWj.<br />

Proceeding in Jihaad in <strong>the</strong> Path <strong>of</strong> Allaah<br />

with a Sincere Intention<br />

<strong>The</strong>re Shall be no Rewards for <strong>the</strong> person whose<br />

Intention is to Gain Fame and Fortune<br />

Hadhrat Abu Hurayra ~ B&j narrates that someone asked, "0 Rasulullaah &%@!<br />

(Tell me about) A person who intends to wage Jihaad and also has <strong>the</strong> intention<br />

<strong>of</strong> earning some worldly pr<strong>of</strong>its." Rasulullaah @@ replied, "He shall not be<br />

rewarded." Regarding this to be a very serious matter, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> @CWj said<br />

to <strong>the</strong> person, "Please repeat what you have asked Rasulullaah m. Perhaps you<br />

did not explain yourself to him properly." <strong>The</strong> man asked for <strong>the</strong> second time, "0<br />
