Muslims are engaged in worship by night and-seasoned horsemen by day." (')<br />

In a lengthy narration <strong>of</strong> Abu lslhaaq, it is mentioned that Heraclius (<strong>the</strong> Roman<br />

Emperor) asked (his generals), "What is <strong>the</strong> matter? Why are you being defeated<br />

-(by <strong>the</strong> Muslims)?" An old man from amongst his senior <strong>of</strong>ficers replied, "Because<br />

<strong>the</strong> Muslims stand in worship during <strong>the</strong> night and fast during <strong>the</strong> day." (2)<br />

More Ahadeeth on this subject will be discussed in <strong>the</strong> chapter dealing with <strong>the</strong><br />

reasons for which divine assistance came. In <strong>the</strong>chapter titled "Women pledged<br />

' <strong>The</strong>ir allegiance" (3), <strong>the</strong> narration has passed which states that Hadhrat Hind<br />

said (to her husband Hadhrat Abu Shfyaan BGW), "I wish to pledge<br />

allegiance .to Muhammad w." Hadhrat Abu Sufyaan %,Em said, "But I have<br />

noticed that you have always been rejecting what he says." She replied, "By<br />

Allaah! That it true, However, I swear by Allaah that before this night I have never<br />

seen Allaah being worshipped iri this Masjid as He deserves to be worshipped. By<br />

Allaah! <strong>The</strong> Muslims spent €he entire night performing salaah standing, bowing<br />

down and prostrating." . .<br />

Engaging in Dhikr While Out in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong> Allaah<br />

<strong>The</strong> Dhikr <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> '&- <strong>the</strong> Night <strong>the</strong>y Conquered Makkah<br />

Hadhrat Sa'eed bin Musayyib J&Gb1G3 narrates that on <strong>the</strong> night after <strong>the</strong><br />

~usiims entered Makkah as conquerors, <strong>the</strong>y continuously recited "Allaahu<br />

Akbar", "Laa Ilaaha Illallaah" and performed Tawaaf <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kabah until dawn<br />

broke. Hadhrat Abu Sufyaan ?&Gw <strong>the</strong>n said to his wife Hind @WG, "Do you<br />

not see that all this is from Allaah?" "Yes," she replied, "this certainly is from<br />

Allaah." <strong>The</strong> next morning Hadhrat Abu Sufyaan ?&&% went early to Rasulullaah<br />

m. Rasulullaah said, "(Last night) You said to Hind, 'Do you not see that<br />

all this is from Allaah? and she replied, 'Yes, this certainly is from Allaah."'<br />

Hadhrat Abu Sufyaan b= exclaimed, "I testify that you are certainly <strong>the</strong><br />

servant and Rasul <strong>of</strong> Allaah! I swear by <strong>the</strong> ~eing in Whose name I take oaths<br />

that no one but Hind heard this statement <strong>of</strong> mine." (4)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Dhikr <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> '@%iW2 as <strong>the</strong>y Stood<br />

over a Valley During <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Khaybar<br />

Hadhrat Abu Moosa Ash'ari ?&,G%G narrates that when Rasulullaah left on a<br />

military expedition to Khaybar, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> @3Bw had reached a valley when<br />

<strong>the</strong>y raised <strong>the</strong>ir voices reciting, "Allaahu Akbar! Laa Ilaaha Illallaah!" Rasulullaah<br />

k!@% said to <strong>the</strong>m, "Have mercy on yourselves (do not exert yourselves) for you<br />

are not calling someone who is deaf or absent. You are calling One Who is All<br />

Hearing, Who is close and Who is always with you."<br />

Hadhrat Abu Moosa Ash'ari ?&G= narrates fur<strong>the</strong>r that he was behind <strong>the</strong><br />

(1) Tabari (Vo1.2 Pg.610).<br />

(2) Ahmad bin Marwaan Maaliki as well as Ibn Asaakir (Vol.1 Pg.143), narrating from Ibn Is'haaq.<br />

(3) Under <strong>the</strong> subheading "Hadhrat Faatima bint Utba @3&!2j Pledges Allegiance Along with her Sister<br />

Hadhrat Hind tiE.lWG> who was <strong>the</strong> Wife <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Abu Sufyaan t".<br />

(4) Bayhaqi, as quoted in A/ Bidaaya wan Nihaaya (Vo1.4 Pg.304). Ibn Asaakir has also,reported <strong>the</strong><br />

narration au<strong>the</strong>ntically, as quoted in Kanzul Ummaal(Vol.5 Pg.297). '<br />
